I have been asked to edit together a weekly 12 minute reel comprised of :10 to :30 spots. All of the spots come from different sources and new tapes will be continually coming in. I realize that the key to success with a project like this would be good organization. Working on Final Cut with 1.5 TB of storage. Any words of advice from the cow junkies out there?

    Thanks,
    Reins

Man…I am working on a tutorial DVD on organizing projects, both big and small, narrative and documentary…but have been stalled due to the project I am working on taking over my life. I won’t get back on it soon enough…

I am no stranger to sarcasm.

The biggest issue I would want to deal with first is converting all the various formats to a single format. I’d have all of my VCRs patched to a single DV or DigiBeta deck and make dubs of everything to the universal format and capture everything from there into the FCP system.

You get protection dubs and all of your time base corrections and color tweaks can be done before you ingest to
    FCP.

Aside from that, creating a folder for each week’s project is the only thing I’d be doing.

Hope you get better advice. I’m all out of sarcasm today but I’m working on it!

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
