AE is creating the entire frame in the upstream comp and then rescaling it to fit the new one. You’re rendering twice. Your second comp is not much smaller, only about 80%, than the first comp (3.9 million pixels vs 4.7 million) and that will not translate directly to reduced rendering time.
The only way to save rendering time is to prerender as much as you can or use networked rendering or get a faster machine.

All of these techniques have tradeoffs. Noise suppression is often a blurring process that combines lots of adjacent pixels. Run some tests, very carefully. There are so many different ways to do this you may find yourself using a filter that is completely unrelated orr it may take stacking up two or more techniques. For instance, you might want to duplicate the track, apply some black clipping and some glow around the highlights and then blend this on top of the bottom layer. It’s a common technique to get a high dynamic range in poorly exposes shots. If you have any of the AE books by Trish and Chris Meyer, look up “instant sex” in the index.

October 20, 2008 at 2:55 pm in reply to: Trying with no luck to edit at 12fps – is this possible? Are you actually creating a 12fps film? Why? How will you show it?
Or are you creating a conventional 24fps film that is being shot in what we Americans call “on-twos”? that is, every still image is being show twice in a 24fps projection.bogiesan

Forget all other graphics cards, too. Just get the Radeon 3870. You only need one but you may want another cheap display card but you can’t run more than one display card when using FCP or a bunch of Motion’s effects won’t render inside FCP but they will inside Motion with any number of display cards active. Sheesh.

The Digital Signage industry is huge these days. A major factor in determining your workflow is knowing how the movie will be played out to the display matrix. Some sign systems have proprietary players that run through programmable scalars. You need to find out before you place a bid.
A scalar mean a no-brainer on your end, delivery is determined by the manufacturer.bogiesan

Can’t be done in After Effects.
Umm, not easily and not the wya you think it should be done.
You would be creating a thin rectangular cube in a precomp and then turning it. But a cube cannot be twisted in 3D space. AE does not do 3d distortions. You need a 3D application and AE is only about 2.5D.bogiesan
