I am afraid not! When working with Adobe AE or PrP, Resolve wants to keep everything for itself;-)… you have to quit in order to get back video playback. I found it also to be an issue if someone wants to use a plugin like Magic Bullet: there is no way you can monitor inside MB interface at the same time than Resolve.

are you working in a color managed work space in AE? if your intent photo output is for the web, I would set your AE project as sRGB color space. Also make sure you interpret your photos correctly when importing them into your project.

    …what Joseph said.

Also have you checked your Resolve Preferences? In Video I/O and GPU, I will check CUDA and all the rest checked off. Under system you may want to test different Pre-allocated system memory, so you are not “starving” your system. Finally, I assume you are using Resolve 12, and it should not be an issue anymore, but maybe you want to change your Apple Display resolution (under System Preferences), and see if it affects Resolve behavior.

I would try to play your footage from a fast external drive and see if you still have the same issues. If you still have the same trouble I would try to re-wrap your footage: yes .mts file are recognized by Resolve, but in my experience they are still some issues (i.e TC & spanning clip) and I am wondering if on a basic system like yours, the format is more demanding on your system?? just some ideas…

I am not sure you can compare playing a movie in Quicktime player and Resolve: both applications have different resources need, Resolve being higher. Are you playing your footage from internal or external drives? To see if this is a problem with the codec, I would try to rewrap your AVCHD footage using a program like EditReady to Quicktime file .mov

January 14, 2016 at 5:57 am in reply to: 4K mov file to a bluay and have it play on a 4K TV?

I doubt it will be possible with blu-ray player manufactured from 2014 and past. Last year UltraHD Blu-ray standard (4K blu-ray player) was officially announced. I understand you will need an HDMI connection version 2 in order to take advantage of the full bandwidth and requirements of 4K signal. Just like some DVD players could play HD recorded to DVD disc, maybe some HD blu-ray player will be able to play UHD movies from a blu-ray disc at some point. In 2015 Samsung announced the first UHD player but I don’t believe it is on the shelf anywhere yet. At CES 2016 more manufacturers presented new players.

Today if you need to play a 4K movie, your best bet is from a hard drive with enough compression/bandwidth to sustain the data rate.

December 30, 2015 at 5:36 pm in reply to: Which Color Space should I be working in?

In After Effects, select your footage and look for Interpret footage to see if the color space was automatically recognized. If your footage was shot log, you would notice that “flat” look. Otherwise I would find out who ever makes the master what is the delivery requirement.

In general you want to work in the color space of the master delivery. Now depending on your post production workflow you may want to work in a wider color space in order to retain as much information as possible. Which color space was recorded your RAW footage? log, Rec. 709?

[RJ Miles] “Such as moving the original source to a new folder then launching the project and using locate to target the ProRes versions. If the name was the same, might it just find all of the missing files of similar names?”

    yes!

Depending when in your workflow you want to do that, you may want to use the Project Manager function.

  • can’t you just keyframe part of the FX you want to change overtime? I am not sure what you mean by “color effect” but you can certainly keyframe any of your color adjustment, independently of your power window.
