I’d say go NVIDIA. If you can afford it, get a Quadro. If not, get a GTX 670. Best price:performance you can get in the current generation. I’m actually planning to get one of those 😀

Check your compositions. You could have a comp with a framerate that doesn’t match the comp it’s nested in. I’ve had issues with that before, could be your problem

They both generally work the same. GI and Indirect are different in the way they’re excecuted. GI calculates prepass and all first, where as the physical renderer does it all at once, and also gives simpler controls on handling quality.

Have you tried messing around with the Metaball tag? I found that decreasing the strength in the tag, them playing with the Hull control in the Metaball kinda fixed it. I just quickly attempted it, but I think with more time you can get a decent result

Physical Renderer has its own “Indirect Illumination” section. Try using that instead of Global Illumination.

There actually is a way!
First, you could use a Stage object and keyframe the “Camera” section, but that would render out only one file. In order to render multiple files from different cameras in a single scene::STEP 1:
Under “Render Settings”, in the bottom-left is a button labelled “Render Settings…”. Click once and select “New”. Alternatively, you could click and drag down the “Render Settings” item already in the list to duplicate it.STEP 2:
Make copies for each camera and change the “Save” and “Output” sections as required. Recommend double-clicking to rename them to match what Camera they correspond to, important for the next step.STEP 3:
Add the project to the Render Queue. In the Render Queue window, you’ll find at the bottom (below the progress bar) two side-by-side dropdowns that read “Render Settings” and “Camera”. Simply duplicate the Render job at the top and change the Render Settings and Camera for each.STEP 4:
RENDER AWAY!Step 3 can get tiring, so don’t rush through it. Be sure to double-check that everything matches up before rendering. I do wish I could script, coz then I’d make one that does that for you.

AE uses Pixels and C4D uses actual units. Your best bet would be to set the solid size to be the same as the final output file. I think that should resolve it.

There’s a lotta ways to make stuff look realistic, but some work better than others so it’s best to experiment and find what works. Subtle bump maps, slight reflections, Sub-Poly Displacement, Diffuse maps, noisy color channels, using Area Lights or Global Illumination.
