Do your project properties match the properties of the video clip?

Has Sony released any information on what older software versions are compatible? My first guess (just a guess) is that certain functions might not work with a new OS.

Did you make sure to have the render bar extended over the entire timeline? I have made that mistake before and rendered basically one frame.

Its only a 5400 rpm drive, so o wouldn’t use it for video clips that would be accessed for projects. However, for backup/storage it would work fine!
Lately I’ve been trying to acquire enterprise class hard drives, if the price is right. More expensive than your typical hard drives but are made to last linger under heavy use.

All new systems should have an SSD drive as its main system drive. You can easily find 250gb SSD drives cheap, and saw one today on Amazon for only $90.

Your AMD CPU is going to be the bottle neck of your system, no matter which GPU you choose.

Have you tried converting that ‘bad’ footage into a different format? Maybe it’s some quirky codec that’s causing the issue. Handbrake is a free program (and quite popular), so try converting it to an .avi and replace the bad clip on the timeline with this new one. It might just work!
