Take a screenshot of your ‘render as’ settings and post it up here, so we can see what the video settings are.

I am not so sure that processor is good enough for 4k. It is already 3 generations old, being a Sandy Bridge CPU. Definitely strong enough for 1080 but I’m not too sure with 4k.
Also the videondrice array throughput plays a big part with 4k.

When I switched from 7200 rpm Seagate Baeeicuda drives to a striped pair of Crucial M4 drives (strictly for video files) I didn’t notice any difference with editing my 24mb/s AVCHD 1080p files. Now if I were editing 4k video I’m sure there would be an improvement but there is more to smooth editing of 4k video than just the types of drives.
All comes down to what types of video you are working with.

Are you saying that you don’t have administrator privileges on that system? That is probably your problem right there.

What’s the specifications of the original footage? 1080HD, 720p or SD? What is the final destination? BluRay??
Personally, I always have my project settings match the settings of the video i’m editing.

Your current render speed is normal, and unfortunately the only way to decrease it is to scrap your motherboard and CPU with an Intel Xeon CPU, which will run about $3000ish for the latest and greatest. And your render will only decrease by a small percentage.

Old system, huh? Check for CPU overheating or power supply going bad.

If you use your editing system to make money, it is best to keep it offline, period. How much $$ would you lose per day of downtime if the worst would happen (which does happen)?
BTW: I use Eset antivirus and it works problem free, but I don’t edit for a living.

When I was running Vegas Pro 8 on an older system I used to get ‘blips’ during basic transitions between two video events. That problem went away after upgrading to a higher performing hard drive (just for the video files). Not saying this is your problem but the throughout of my hard drive was my culprit.

What render codec are you using for the render, MainConcept 1080 for internet? If so, those settings are good. You can also enable ‘two-pass rendering’, which yields best render quality but takes longer to render.
