Thanks Jeremy. Was hoping to avoid the render, and thought maybe I was doing something wrong with the Aja codec, but I guess the animation codec will work fine if rendering is a must. Thanks again!

    Hi Joe,

I’ve tried your suggestion, but the resulting QT looks horrible: soft and very compressed. Also, the Mac shows the file type as a “Final Cut Pro Movie File” rather than a QuickTime movie. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

Thanks for the help. I forgot to mention that I am running AE on a separate Windows machine. I realized that the mistake I was making was rendering a quicktime movie with the compressor set to “none”. While poking around Aja’s website, I located their codecs, downloaded and installed on the Windows box, re-rendered in the “2yuv” codec, and it worked great. Thanks again!

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried Frippy’s suggestion, and set Procoder to generic, but it still won’t allow me to use anything but traditional frame sizes. Also downloaded a demo version of Main Concept’s encoder, but it doesn’t seem to allow changing the presets at all.

[Blast1] “Only with the older Athlon xp processors, the newer AMD 64s, 64×2, and Opterons work fine.”

Good to know. Thanks to all for the help. I finally decided on the “Gateway 940 Media Center” with a Pentium D 940 processor, 2MB RAM, and a single 500GB SATA II harddrive (but room to add more). So far, so good!

Considering AMD would certainly open up more options for us, but I seem to remember reading about some issues with AMD’s and PP2.

Hmmm… I was starting to lean toward the Sony, based on Aanarav’s opinion that the raid 0 drives are more important than the faster processor. I would certainly upgrade the RAM on the Sony, but would you disagree with Aanarav’s assessment?

    Hey Alan,

I would love the adventure of building my own system. Unfortunately, we are a small production company, and must replace a dying system by tomorrow at the latest, to be back up and running. Thanks for the info, though.

Thanks for your response, Vincent. I have owned several HP’s and Compaq’s over the years and have had pretty good luck with them. I will say that the HP boxes are usually packed pretty tightly and leave little room for expansion, though.
