Yes. From my understanding quite a few of those video effects affect the render times because it requires extra processing.

If I was actually trimming, would that make my render times dramatically shorter? That’s my understanding as well, so I don’t think so, especially since it doesn’t alter the original file at all (just specifies different points to start/stop reading the original file from).

We’ll see what input others have.

Here’s my insight (but by no means take it as gospel):

Set up #1:
Faster or slower depends on your media locations. That is, are you always going to read from one drive and write to the other? If so, it’ll probably be faster than default; if not, it’ll be slower than default.

Set up #2:
Ditto. Assuming your SSD will only contain source files and you’ll always write to the RAID drives, this will be faster than default. If you write to SSD it could be slower in some cases and offers no real advantage.

Set up #3:
I would make drive D as the read drive and E as the write drive. In this case, it’ll be faster than default.

SSD’s are slowed down by writes, but excel at reads. Not sure about the degradation, but at this point I think it takes approximately 5 years (or more) for the drives to degrade. I’m sure by then you’ll have upgraded something anyway. 🙂

Even with SSD’s I believe it’s best to take “scratch disks”, pre-render folders, caches, and the Windows Pagefile to another drive. This way there’s even less writing to the SSD and significantly more reading.

Dave: Ditto. I hope they’re using one of the standards that both AMD and nVidia use so Vegas 11 does indeed work seemlessly with both and it won’t matter which GPU people use so long as it supports that standard.

I went looking for such details on Sony’s website but not surprisingly didn’t find any of the technical specs. Hopefully Sony will comprehensively update their site upon release.

I know there is a “play list” option in DVD Architect Pro. Have you checked that out?

Also, you can put all 20 clips on a DVD menu. There is an option in DVD Architect when a clip is finished playing to either continue on to the next clip or return to the main menu.

Vegas doesn’t alter the original files in any way, so I don’t think it was Vegas.

We probably can’t test now, but what happens if you take another MOV file and load it into the TRIMMER?

Instead of loading it into the trimmer, what happens if you take another mov file from the camera and just play it on the timeline and work with it there?

I don’t have Movie Studio, but as a “hack” you could have the text bounce in. When that ends, just insert a still text media event and leave that on your timeline for however long you want the text “frozen”.
