[Mark Suszko] “OK’ing that, FCPX asks me where to put the resulting file, which is on my scratch video drive. So far, all good. Hit the OK and it renders, but does not burn to the BD.”

You should have had your BD drive as choose instead of your hard drive.

[Ted Irving] “Samsung Movie Converter to modify the footage to Apple Pro Res 4K, H.264 4096×2160, Data Rate:205.13 Mbit/s.”

I’m a little confused, did you convert to ProRes or H264?

  • I’m in Santa Barbara, CA and I charge hourly. But I’m a production company so when you walk in the door to my office there is no separation between gear and me. I refuse to do day rate jobs or flat rate jobs. I loose jobs to Craigslist but they aren’t jobs I want.

I just used XtoPro and sent the AAF to a Pro Tools guy and it worked perfectly. Make sure you set your roles for the audio.

Have you tried reinstalling the Yosemite from scratch?

  • We moved from the Trickster to Blackmagic because it’s to much to have everything in one box. We find it’s much better to have a video playback system and a streaming computer that someone can be operating. It’s more flexible for us.

Joel, I have been using FCP X for a couple of years now. FCP X has problems with long files 2 hours plus. I think the problem is it has to build the audio waveforms and on long files that can’t take 30 minutes to an hour before I can use those files. I’m using the latest MacPro and a T-BOLT 2 raid running at 700mb per second. How many audio channels does your video file have? I import ProRes 422 created using a Blackmagic Hyperdeck and FCP X has a fit with the 16 channels of audio even though only 2 channels have audio.

Yes, I have the same computer. 6 core 2013 Mac Pro with D500s and 32GB of ram and sometime I have trouble getting the timeline (project) to be the applications focus. Zooming in and out almost always requires the audio waveforms to rebuild, etc…

  • One thing I do is deselect everything before I make changes. Command Shift A
Even in legacy FCP I would mistakenly have items selected and they would get deleted.

  • I would get a Sachtler. I’ve had a Sachtler 18 for 17 years and it still works perfectly! One of my best equipment investments.
