Greg, times are tough, hang in there. I looked at your website and you have done some nice stuff but it is buried behind the index page on your website. it is not about the software, it’s about what you do with it. Move your awards and clips to your home page and stop advertising for Apple. Start advertising for you.
Those are just my thoughts, take em or leave em.

August 2, 2009 at 8:14 pm in reply to: Final Cut Pro 7: Use free tools to make your own single-document manualAlex, thanks for the info, very easy! I was able to do the whole process in Pages 09. I inserted the Preface as one insert, then the rest of the manual as second insert no need to go to Text Edit. Thanks again for posting the info on how to do this. Apple should have done this!!!

I tried this and it seems to work fine here if I understand what you are asking. Park between two key frames and use the mixer to change the levels or park on a keyframe to change the levels. The keyboard shortcuts (control +and-) raise the clip level.

As far as I can tell It will show just the sequence timecode and aux timecodes. If you double click on the clip and put it in the viewer it will show you the code of the source clip as well as a list of other items like log notes, take, etc… (right click selectable).

I have installed FCS3 on my Macbook Pro and the Master Templates work fine. I tried the Sequence menu – add master template – overwrite – Skyline-Open.HD.motn and effects menu – master template Atmospheric-Open.HD. Both were editable and rendered fine. Can you describe your steps?

July 26, 2009 at 7:18 pm in reply to: FCP 6 & 7 use only two cores for RT and Render, Right? While we are all guessing at this point but how can they test multi-core “aware” in FCP 7 if it’s not multi-core “aware”?
Testing conducted by Apple in April 2009 using prerelease Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard, a prerelease version of Final Cut Pro 7.0, and shipping Mac Pro 8-core 2.26 GHz units.

July 26, 2009 at 6:31 pm in reply to: FCP 6 & 7 use only two cores for RT and Render, Right?Below is some info from the Apple ProRes White Paper July 2009, Page 17. My take on what this say is that FCP 7 should be Multiprocessor aware using ProRes and Snow Leopard.
Today’s Mac notebook and desktop machines rely on multicore processing, and so
the speed of a fast editing decoder must scale up—meaning that decoding time per
frame should decrease—as the number of processing cores increases. Many industry
codec implementations “hit the wall” and do not realize further performance gains as
more processors are added, but Apple ProRes codecs continue to get faster as more
cores are added, as the following chart shows.

Have you collapsed the multiclip in Final Cut? Color 1.04 doesn’t like multiclip even collapsed. You have to media manage the timeline without the mutliclip angles or when you return from color you will be very unhappy.

That was a great list Tom, thanks for collecting those. Things we all need to look out for.
