FCS3 arrived, any testing suggestions?
Posted by Earthworm on July 24, 2009 at 5:43 pmA copy of FCS3 just arrived.
Kudos to Apple for ditching the enormous box with paper-wasting manuals.I’ll be loading it one one machine (keeping a clean FCS2 on a different boot-drive, I’m not crazy…)
I have a 1hr broadcast doc we delivered a couple weeks ago so I’m going to experiment with the ‘improved’ Media Manager and sending to color without prepping.
Does anybody have anything in particular I can try for them?
I’ll post some impressions etc. later today.

Go to work on real project and report back when you’re done…
BTW, kudos on your decision to keep FCS2 installed on a separate bootable drive. You’ll be one less person we have to save down the road if there’s any reason that FCS3 has issues. I hope everyone else does the same before upgrading…

July 24, 2009 at 7:26 pmConsidering no capture card company has announced official support of fcs3, we absolutely have to wait.

Why not capture using FCS2, then import into FCS3?
Of course, playback through the card (device) may not work… But it might…

July 25, 2009 at 12:38 amKona 3 seems to be working fine input and output.
One small but very nice little addition that I didn’t notice on any of the ‘What’s New’ documentation is that in the right click/control click menu on items in the Browser there is a feature that says ‘Reveal Affiliated Clips in Front Sequence.’ Something that should’ve been there a long time ago but a nice little thing.
Slight disappointment with the Timecode Viewer. Unless I’m doing something wrong, it does not give you the incoming timecode while capturing. Still very useful while editing…

Oh it might physically work, but there might be new firmware updates and easy setup updates to account for all the new codecs and features (such as alpha channel support for ProRes 4×4).

Sure, but if can get your typical work accomplished in the interim, then that would be good.

Unfortunately, I don’t think so according to Mike Curtis who used to maintain the HD for Indies website.

..but ProRes 4×4 supports YUV or RGB @ 10bit with an uncompressed alpha channel.
