I’ve had this error also but under different circumstances (the things listed in this article didn’t help me in my case). Mine was “A serious error has occurred.” Restart the sytem immediately, blah blah blah. The timeout error appeared for me in the Record Window.

It appears that when you Option-Click (on a Mac) the Desktop *then* hit the Caps Lock, After Effects will hide.

AE 10.5.0.253, Mac OS 10.7.2
