Okay, I did see that video from the original thread, but I thought you said you were working on something yourself with visuals. I may have not read it correctly.

Yep, but even as a quickie job, I hope I can at least slightly exceed the lowest common denominator videos out there. Some of the reason I’m putting these up is personal, but mostly it’s for my website businesses and will hopefully help drive some traffic.

Speaking of Favorites and setting In and Out points, clearly a big feature request is the ability to export from the timeline with In and Out points without using the workaround of copying and pasting into a new Project and exporting from there. But, I don’t remember seeing anyone asking for the ability to right-click on a favorite and export only that portion of a clip.

I know the same workaround would work, but it would be nice to also be able to create one’s own sub-clips this way for numerous reasons including not worrying about overlapping favorites on one clip. Would this be another feature request or have I missed others talking about it?

I’ve been around video now long enough that I understand most of what is discussed, but occasionally I get tripped up by non-defined acronyms that can’t find with a google search.

Yes, I have enough tunes I’d like to crank out that I will likely go that route also. The more ideas I can muster up the better at this point.

Yes, some is band stuff and the rest I’ve produced myself. I don’t have much to go on with cover art, but a few of the songs will come from past released albums. It is a good idea though as I can go back through some of the photo shoots and pull out some photos I’ve likely forgotten about. A lot of that stuff is from the 80’s and 90’s and low-res compared to today’s standards, but I can add some effects of top to make it look more like “intentional art”.

Sadly, not very much. We didn’t really think about video taping our shows back then and as I said in the first post, a lot of what I want to put up is instrumental stuff that I’ve produced post-band days (rock-blues music with a dance beat and lead harmonica which sounds more like rock guitar then standard harmonica).

That sounds like a very cool feature of PP6 and it’s a bit more difficult to do in FCPX, but I could do it there also by manually clicking through with markers on down beats and then matching footage to the markers with snapping on. My big problem at the moment is finding the footage to cut in with the movie. I have a long list of my own “stock” footage I’d like to shoot, but I don’t have the time at the moment to get it shot.

This is why I’ve been looking at the free and paid visualizers as mediocre eye candy that’s better than a blank screen. I just can’t help thinking though that I’m missing something obvious to add as visuals.

I do realize that Motion 5 could create some cool stuff and Ripple Training has excellent tutorials, but I don’t have the time for the learning curve right now.

I forgot to mention in the original post that I’ve been on FCP X since day 1, but started back on FCP 4.5. Certainly no pro, but I can do about anything I need to do at this point with the software.

Oh, and although I called out Jeremy because of a previous post he made, if any one else has any ideas on how to make a relatively fast music video that goes beyond a black screen (and the Ken Burns effect), I’d love to hear it.

You might also check out the x264 plug-in for Compressor, QT 7, etc. instead of the standard H.264 MP4. The quality and encoding speed is as good or better than H.264 with smaller file sizes.

I use it mostly to create .MP4s from Compressor and occasionally from QT 7. It really is as good as advertised. It’s less of any issue if posting a video to Youtube or Vimeo, but if you serve it from your own website, it’s saves a lot of bandwidth over time. Myself or someone else here can help you with settings if you have questions.

I’m primarily a musician and web guy and have been busy with non-video projects for about six weeks, so the reminder is helpful. The closest I’ve gotten to video in the last month or so is reading the two FCPX Cow forums. I’m actually fine with using the default magnetic scheme, but I find your workaround very cool and I’d like to play with it the next time I fire up the program.

Because this thread gets referenced so much, I’ve probably read through it 3-4 times, but I’m still missing what is likely a very obvious point…

What is the basic setup made of to achieve this? Are those gap clips in there that create the “tracks”? I’ve been with FCPX since v10.00, but somehow I’m not getting this.

(I know Steve made a short video tutorial on this. Is it posted anywhere?)

(Chris, I don’t mean to hi-jack your thread, but your video link got me thinking- Dave)

I took a look at the Youtube video link from above and was pretty impressed with the ultimate result with a few layered motion effects, graphics, and text.

I’d love to start uploading some of my music to Youtube without creating extravagant video stories and having to resort to just using the Ken Burns effect. Does anyone have any ideas or other concepts as to how to put forth a rock/pop song with something interesting to look at while people listen?

I know this is a very vague request, but aside from acting out a video storyline and/or using photos, I’m not coming up with any interesting ideas. Anything with some movement would be cool vs. a static image.
