It will depend on the BMD card.

November 14, 2008 at 8:24 pm in reply to: Indemnification to client regarding Royalty Free Music from Digital JuiceDave,
If Digital Juice claims they have the rights to give you rights and you abide by the license agreement then I don’t know what else you can do. I suppose you could contact DJ and ask them to indemnify you in the event of problems with their IP contracts or have them provide a statement of ownership. But I am skeptical that you’ll get much in the way of cooperation along those lines.
Frankly, it’s not worth worrying about. The production music industry is well established and no organization in their right mind is going to offer IP rights without having an ironclad contract in place.
Relax and tell your client yes.

Open one of the jpg files with Photoshop and check that the color mode is RGB (Image > Mode > RGB Color). Pr won’t accept CYMK mode images.

You should be able to drag files from the Explorer window and drop them in a bin as an import method.

November 1, 2008 at 1:32 pm in reply to: Does a button have to have an activated state graphic indication?Mike,
No, there does not need to be an activated state indication.
[Mike Petty] “since this is a layered menu there is no mouse rollover to indicate selected, like in an overlay menu, right. The use has to physically click the button to select then click again…correct?”
No rollover indication if the user is playing the disc on a computer. And they will have to click twice. On a set-top player it should automatically go to the menu page with the appropriate set of graphics. Or is should, assuming that each button (except the one button that navigates to playback) is set to automatically activate.

Greetings Fredrik. It is great to run into you again.
I have found the Axio card to be a pretty good solution. You will appreciate the real time capabilities.
There is a problem with the Matrox Move & Scale functions. As someone mentioned elsewhere in this thread, it has serious aliasing problems. Matrox has been working on this for quite long while. They added a stop-gap fix in a recent software update. When – or if, a real fix is coming is unknown. It is possible to use the Adobe move & scale (not real time though) and get acceptable results.
We also have a couple Final Cut systems with Kona cards. I prefer the Axio output. Given the same footage is looks better coming out of the Axio. Especially when down converting HD footage to SD the Axio does a much better job.

Microboards makes very good printers too. At least the GX printer I’ve been using has been very reliable and has good quality output.
[Kim stuckmeyer] “is there a difference in duplication and replication?”
Yes. Duplication implies that the discs are recorded (burned) on recordable media. Replication implies that the discs are manufactured by using a stamper (created from a “glass master”) and injection molding. Unless you have few million bucks handy you probably won’t be buying a replication system.

October 21, 2008 at 8:42 pm in reply to: Applying Multiple Transitions still isnt in CS4?Right from the CS4 manual…
To apply one or more effects to more than one clip, first select the clips. Ctrl-click (Windows) or Command-click (Mac OS), each of the desired clips in the Timeline. Then, drag one effect or a selected group of effects to any of the selected clips.
It took me 22 seconds to find this in the manual.

Jiri,
So, your grip is that they changed the keyboard layout? Or is it that they added functionality? I agree that it’s a pain to break old habits and learn new ones. The fingers go where they are accustom to going. It would be better to not break long time user habits.
So, there are keyboard shortcuts. I’m glad to hear that.

[Jiri Fiala] “This new paradigm introduces need of sync locks, which is a tremendously useful thing, but it adds complexity to simple editing jobs.”
Jiri,
I loudly applaud the introduction of sync lock and source targeting. The lack of this functionality has been one of my biggest complaints about PPro. Sync lock can, in certain circumstances, greatly simplify editing jobs.
I do agree that if there are no keyboard shortcuts possible for selecting/toggling target tracks (and/or for determining sync tracks)it is a MAJOR oversight and very contrary to the notion of “Editing efficiency” as touted by Adobe. I don’t have cs4 yet so I don’t know if the possibility exists to map to these functions. If it’s not part of the default keyboard mapping I sure hope it’s possible through custom mapping.
Anybody out there with the new software that can tell us?
Dave
