  • Can no longer import .jpg files

I am running premiere 6.0 on XP.

After using premiere successfully for several months, I can no longer import image files – jpg and gifs. tif, bmp seem to work ok. I have many jpg files in these folders and can view them in windows explorer and open them with other programs. but when i attempt to import into premiere projects no jpgs are listed.

I have recently installed, updated or changed a number of media programs such as: macromedia flash, quicktime, VLC media player and picasa 3. I imagine there is some conflict at hand, but I can’t resolve it. I’ve tried changing file associations in windows, making hidden files appear etc, but to no avail. I’ve tried several system restores but also without success.

Someone else has experienced the same problem reported it to Adobe but there is no response. See:

I can convert all my jpgs to tifs as a workaround but would prefer to avoid this. What to do…..

You should be able to drag files from the Explorer window and drop them in a bin as an import method.

Do you mean to drag and drop .jpg files into the Project Window?

I just tried that. It doesn’t work with jpgs or gifs but does work with tif and bmp files.

I get an error message saying “file is an unsupported type”.

Uninstall Quicktime and VLC players and try again. If it still does not work, reinstall the latest QT player.

Open one of the jpg files with Photoshop and check that the color mode is RGB (Image > Mode > RGB Color). Pr won’t accept CYMK mode images.

don’t think that’s the problem because the jpgs worked with Premiere previously. think it’s a software glitch

    Yay. Problem solved.

Uninstalling Quicktime and reinstalling the latest version did the trick.

I had tried this previously but there is a trick to uninstalling QT. When uninstalling qt through the install/uninstall programs, choose the “uninstall everything” option. Windows says it’s not a good idea but it works. if you don’t choose this option, the new install doesn’t work properly.

    This link explains how:

Then just download and reinstall QT.

    Thanks heaps.
