The irony is, now that I’ve finally (mostly) gotten my head around FCPX’s media managing, it’s likely going to change next month with 10.1 or whatever it will be called. The iMovie media managing makes all this so much easier.

He says more about this here: https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=9739
After installing Resolve 10 non beta this morning I no longer have to click the warning that my HD 7950 GPU sucks. I don’t notice any less performance in Resolve, but I notice a huge boost in FCPX.

Did you try a different CF reader? Sometimes they don’t get along.
Second, can you import your footage with your laptop to an event and then copy the event over to your iMac? I know it doesn’t solve the bigger problem, but it will get you going.
Normally this goes in this forum: https://forums.creativecow.net/fcpxtechnique

I use the ‘auto’ audio enhancements for that to try and get a decent automatic zero state for everything. (You need to have analyze on when you import or do it after) Then I can use the timeline index to set one clip’s levels then copy pasting those attributes to all the other instances of that camera setup.
You can also do this using roles as well. It’s pretty amazing how close you can get with most of it. I’m sure there are better ways, but that is pretty fast for me.
If I’m going to a real mix, I use XtoPro which if I set my roles correctly makes an AAF so organized my mixer at first thought someone other than me cut the project.

Yes it does, but if you change your preferences in FCP X, uncheck “add media to event folder” or whatever it’s called, then merge the events. You will have your new timelines and it will eliminate all the doubling up. (Make sure you back up your event currentversion.fcpevent files first)
Then change the preferences back to whatever you want. I have a feeling this isn’t going to be the case for long when the new version comes out judging from how iMovie does everything.

[Jacob Brown] “i wonder — can you export your XML from FCPX, and then just reimport it. Would that then flatten the multicam?”
I just did a test in Resolve 10 beta 3, and it does work, just not with multicam clips with pluraleyes synctemp files as I can’t get Resolve 10 to see them. I need to play around with it further.
The good news is that it does strip the multicam out if all your sound is working and it does come back just fine.

Why would you need to do that? (I was just asked this by someone and I didn’t have a good answer.)
It does bug me that you can’t do that.

I didn’t mean to offend.
I was confused by your suggestion of avoiding using roles on export. I don’t know of a way to avoid using camera audio without deleting it from the timeline or using roles. I could be completely wrong about that.

I think Mr. Clarke’s issue is randomly having unwanted camera audio in mixes.
Do you have XtoPro? I’d like to see an AAF from a project you have this problem with. If the rogue audio happens in FCPX, but not the AAF, it’s a glitch. If it’s the same in both, we can pinpoint what is going on.

I haven’t had this problem. I have been conforming feature length documentaries with many different formats, and export without any issues. I have also made AAFs with XtoPro without a hitch. To answer your original question I haven’t had inconsistent problems with this. It’s only when I’ve missed something that I have had a problem.
I’m completely stumped.
