No great reason to use DVCPROHD. Anyway, the 5D can now shoot 25fps, so the problem has gone away.

i dragged the quicktime from its folder on the media drive into an FCP bin. checked item/properties, which indicated alpha channel. alpha appears ok in the viewer: in the shape of the text with a nice soft blurry outline. as soon as i cut it into the canvas, the alpha becomes full-screen white i.e. no alpha.

the settings i fiddled were: altered the alpha from ‘straight’ to ‘black’ then ‘white’ then ‘no alpha’. also tested all the overlay methods i.e. additive, subtractive, screen, etc. loaded the clip into AE, alpha looks fine.

i’m in a PAL DV project.

Thanks mate, that worked a treat, although the techies here had a bit of trouble rolling back the firmware.

And no thanks at all to Blackmagic tech support, whose silence is deafening.

I find it hard to believe that everyone in the world using decklink puts up with this problem.
