    Hello, I’m working on a 25fps project: DVCPROHD 25p over 50i. I have some
material shot on a stills camera, Canon 5D which is shot at 30fps.
Obviously when I drop this on the timeline FCP helpfully converts it to 25fps,
but in doing so removes 5 frames every second, so the shot becomes a little
    glitchy.

These shots are non sync, so ideally I would like them to play “frame for frame”
i.e. slowed down a little bit. I’ve tried fiddling with the clip settings in FCP
and Compressor, but no luck so far. Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    daz

I think that the best solution is to convert the footage to any Intraframe codec (Uncompress or Proress), keeping the original setting (size, pixels, time base) then conform in CinemaTools to 25fps.

I would test this out, but this should do everything in a single process.

    In Compressor

Start with a PAL DVCProHD preset (or make one) (whatever size your other footage is, 1080 or 720) Drop in the Canon Clips.

    In the Video Settings
    Compressor Type DVCProHDxxxp50
    Change Frame rate to: 25

Then go to Frame Controls, turn on
Down at the bottom is Retiming Control, select the bottom button, so source frames play at (should say 25fps, if video settings are as above)
The other info will be filled in but grayed out.

Nothing probably needs to be set higher than good, since you are not deinterlacing or uprezing.

This is my suggest so this footage will work in your existing timeline without having to render it again.

    Hi Michael

Can I do this somehow also with Cinema Tools? I am using Studio Pro 3.

This workflow is not applicable with my CT version from SP3:

For any help many thanks in advance.

    CimemaTools work when the time-base is close: 23’98 – 24 – 25
When you conform , the change is speed is small.
Going from 30 to any of the above time-base, the difference is too big.

Why DVCproHD? Do you get best results in the 30 to 25 pulldown with this codec, or would it be the same to use Apple ProRes?

No great reason to use DVCPROHD. Anyway, the 5D can now shoot 25fps, so the problem has gone away.
