The short answer then is AVI.

This 1.5.1 situation reminds of those folks who stuck
    – and swore – by Windows 2000. I lot of musos I know
    are still using it, probably.

On our modestly spec’d XP Pro/Audition1.5.1 machine,
we’ve never had problems even with full sized DVAVIs,
but it seems that people with Mac/XP machines running
    Audition 2+ are experiencing problems.

This isn’t much help, but Audition should have stayed
well away from Apple, and at ver.1.5.1

We’re in England so work exclusively in PAL when it comes to
dubbing audio to video in Audition, and have had loads of fun
with it. Even on modestly spec’d workstations, Audition seems
to handle DVAVI as well as any other format, so firstly, there
may not be need to convert to WMV before importing. You
can also tell Audition to playback ‘low quality’ video
although I’ve never noticed much of a difference in ‘qualities’.

We only use Audition 1.5 as Adobe/Apple have seemingly made a
mess of every newer version. But even on maxed out machines,
Audition will start grumbling and slipping in sync after a few
heavy hours of DSP and dubbing – which makes it the perfect
time for reboot and cup of tea, IMHO. 🙂

Are you exporting as ‘Export/Movie/AVI’ or via Adobe
    Media Encoder?

Your 16:9 movies are being anamorphically re-ARC’ed (aspect
ratio conversion) to 4:3. Have a look at your pixel aspect
ratio setting. For 16:9 PAL export it should read ‘1.422’. For
    4:3 it’s ‘1.067’. NTSC is ‘0.900’ 4:3 and ‘1.200’ 16:9.

Next time you open a new project have a little read of Description
    boxes first.

In your mixer window – pan the pre-recorded track(s) to the
left and pan the track your recording on to the right (or
    vice versa).

You’ll end up with a WAV which has a mix of the two tracks
on its left (or right) channel, and just the newly recorded
material on the other. There are then a couple of ways of
what you do next, but the basic way is to ‘silence’ the
mixed channel and then copy and paste the recorded material
onto it to make it stereo. Alternatively, once you’ve silenced
the mixed channel you could hit F11 and convert to mono and then
    convert back to stereo again.

January 8, 2008 at 12:54 pm in reply to: need help making a News Banner for reporter scene

It’s only a graphic, but ideally, one which you can alter
as needed – e.g. changing the name of the reporter.

You need to design it with a graphics app. which will support
layers and alpha channel info – Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro,
    etc.

If you’re designing it yourself… unless it’s for HD and/or
just digital, keep things broadcast safe by not using any
colour with a value about 233.

If you’ve only got basic graphic software design a banner
which doesn’t contain any colours – e.g. blue, green, black,
white – which its background does, that way you’ll be able to
use basic keying tools (in Prem) to get rid of the background
    during post.

If you want to be really pro, don’t frame your banner for 16:9
    video safe, frame for 14:9.
