I haven’t experienced issues with keylight personally.
If you disable multiprocessing and make sure that at least 32 GB is available on the system drive, does that help the issue?

I’ve experienced issues like this for RAM intensive renders. I’d suggest a few potential solutions, a combination of these might help:
1. Reduce the number of processors available to AE.
2. Increase the available space on your system drive.
3. Buy more RAM.

s=Math.sin (f * time * Math.PI * 2);The above will give you values ranging from -1 to 1 ‘f’ times per second. If you want to remap the output then I recommend the linear() function:
linear (s, -1, 1, 0, 100);
The 2nd and 3rd arguments (-1 and 1) are the input range and the 4th and 5th (0 and 100) are the output range that ‘s’ is remapped to linearly. Try changing these numbers around to clip the pulse in interesting ways.

All of the layers inside the continuously rasterized precomps must have their 3D layer switches enabled in your case.

In most cases Blending Modes are the wrong way to remove a black background. It would be appropriate to use a blend mode like Add or Screen if you wanted to blend the layer with a background but otherwise trying to use blend modes for this purpose can lead to greater confusion or incorrect results.
Your other suggestions are good and I’ll add the Extract effect to the list.

Are there any masks or effects on the layer or the layers in the precomp? Does the layer have its Collapse Transformations switch on? Are any of the layers involved 3D?
Haven’t seen the issue myself, just hoping we can triage it.

From your description of the shot there may be enough information to solve for a camera (3D track).
Make sure that you exclude any moving objects (windblown hair…or windblown trackers) from the tracking.

Can’t really tell what’s happening in the video. However, from your description I’d recommend tying the Glue Gun point to a null object instead of directly to the leaf. Use the null to drive the Glue Gun position. Parent the leaf to the null object and rotate it separately around its own axis.

Forgot to include the “fill with black” part after you offset the selection (woops!).

In this case it would probably be easier to define a pattern. In a new document (50×50 works) select all, offset the selection using the arrow keys up and to the left an equal amount, select all again and go to image > define pattern. This will be appended to your currently available patterns. You can apply it to a layer using the pattern overlay blending option set to multiply.
