Not sure if your OS has this, but in Tiger 10.4.11 under system preferences for POWER and SLEEP modes there was an option to use your dual CPU’s at highest performance, or reduced performance. I always used highest, but maybe if your set for reduced something happens every 15 min with the processors. Just a shot in the dark!

[Matthew Lyons] “The ‘X’ that represents ‘cancel’ would not show up”

I noticed that a few times also. To get around it, I have paused the task and go on with my work. Not sure if it would let you re-copy the media elsewhere while it’s paused from copying the same media though. A while later, the X to terminate sometimes comes back on and is then selectable. Restarting FCPX seems to work.

  • Thanks..that’s handy to know.

Not sure what version of FCP you are using, but if you can open them in Quicktime, you can resave them or export them within Quicktime to a .mov file. The .mov file should import into FCP where you can then edit. Upon completing the edit, export from FCP using current settings to create a full res master of your finished edit.
From there, use compressor to import your master and select to encode for DVD.

December 29, 2011 at 8:47 pm in reply to: Some clips showing up audio only inside FCP X

This post is well after the original on this topic, so hoping you all found a cause and cure.
I have transferred (3) 1.5 hour tapes into FCP 6.06 using standard NTSC DV presets as usual and then upon capture completed, copied the resulting quicktime .mov file to an external drive.
The files play fine as a qt movie file with audio and video. Then I imported into FCPX to do editing and one of the files shows only the audio. The other two, captured the same way, work fine.
If I GET INFO on the bad file on my Intel Mac Pro, the thumbnail shows the proper preview and even plays correctly, but the file shows only the audio codec and proper length of the file.
I have the default quicktime app for OSX Lion and I also installed Quicktime 7 in the utilities folder. Any new ideas about this?

    Hey, all..
I am the original user that called Apple and started that post. I am glad it has gotten all the attention it has, because in the many comments people made, many answers were revealed.
I can tell you that at the time I wrote the post, I had only been using FCPX for a couple weeks. I had over 16 long DV projects open and based on other user comments and Apple’s recommendations, moving them to allow working on one or two made a hugh impact on performance for me.
I agree some of the answers I received from Apple were not convincing to me, but I thought I would let the community react and offer their opinion and expertise.
By obtaining increased knowledge from these forums plus ongoing practical experience with FCPX, things are definitely getting better.
    Regards,
    Dan
