Isn’t this a bit excessive? I’ve got a bedside table that could carry 4 of these things and if they’re as quiet as billed I wouldn’t even know they’re there.. or if you really need an enclosure turn one of these sideways and stuff in 20+..

(Need to move the perf to the other 2 sides natch..)

‘I should also point out that a 12-core 3.0Ghz, 32GB, 512GB SSD version of the previous Mac Pro model is $7800.’
Anyone care to price that as an equivalent Hackintosh box?
FWIW the tube seems like, as has been said:
12 core Xeon, 2x firepros with 3gb each..
Plus 32gb ram, 1tb Flash shop installed & with the traditional 100% Apple premium.Plus $1000 3 way tbolt chassis for network, i/o & rockets etc & a Pegasus raid box to get bulk storage back up to internal speeds..
New 4k Cinema displays aside (but you know you’ll spring for one when you’re that deep in)
-hate to say it but unless it does the work of 2 $5k boxes I don’t think its likely I’ll get to use one of these until they’re 4 year old paperweights..

Hey when Apple get around to putting back in the things I need to do my job (which they arbitrarily removed a couple of years ago)- and if this box is priced at the current macpro price or better, then I’m interested. Otherwise I’ll stay on Avid/Win.. until Avid take their turn to rewrite MC into a crippled version of express- or try to blackmail the customers for a monthly payoff..

June 11, 2013 at 12:23 pm in reply to: How will the new MacPro compare with a topped out 2012 27″ iMacI’m very interested to see how the tube performs as a smoke-resolve box. A real life comparison with the equivalent price hackintosh will settle it pretty quick.

I’m hoping we will see some increased performance from the limited variations in the system- especially the GPU system. Cubix will still work -presumably- but the muscle that can be taken for granted has to be a major plus.

This is true. It’s developed into a very serious competitior. The only serious issue with PP now is that you have to let Shantanu Narayen screw your sister.

Its the iMac Pro I swear.. No retooling (I hear they’re obsessive about that) just add the extra space back in the trunk – ok maybe not the dream A6 coprocessor array/flanders screen – but a slightly deeper case(circa 2010) and a little extra gubbins – no expansion.. its all falling into place.. you’ll see.. oh yes you’ll ALL see..

I’ll take another look at 10.1, now that my ‘look into premiere’ slots have opened..
BTW Craig saw the long version of your Danny Boyle film – great job.

I think that’s right. How much further can they go with this software? I think they see the end of the road coming in a few years (barring incremental improvements that PR can’t use) and this is the account departments solution..
