Here’s some more details:

We’re working in DVCPRO50 – NTSC
The project and video are on a 2TB eSata external LaCie Drive
There are a lot of edits. Mostly dissolves and simple edits

I tried FCP rescue, but it really didn’t do anything.

Thanks guys. I found I was really close to what I needed and a few tweaks made just what I needed. I used Riot Gear, CC Particle World, and a CC Radial Wipe of some sort.
