We’ve been using a project file for about a year now and recently the project has been crashing Final Cut. Sometimes we can get it to work, but the next day we’re having the same problem. Recently we moved the sequences from the project file (when it actually worked) to another project. That project opens fine, but when a sequence from the previous file is opened, final cut crashes when trying to display video.

    Any ideas what’s going on?

    Specs:
    Mac Pro
    Quad-Core Intel Xeon 2.26GHz
    6GB RAM
    MAC OS X 10.5.8
    Final Cut Pro 6.0.6

    First try these:
    1) Use FCPattic or similar to trash FCP preferences
    2) Run permissions fixes using disk utility on both the system drive and the media drives.

If that doesn’t work, you might try rendering out those sequences to a QT just to get you through.

We’ve also has very limited success in simply saving a new version of the files on a different volume.

If those don’t do it, maybe you can elaborate a bit more about your setup?
    1) What codec(s) are you editing in?
    2) How many tracks? Lots of edits (multicam, speed changes, etc.?)
    3) What is your setup? Are you using a RAID, SAN or external drives at all?

Sorry if any of these questions sound stupid, I just never know the skill level of people and need to get a baseline.

    Good luck,
    -PJ

    Here’s some more details:

    We’re working in DVCPRO50 – NTSC
The project and video are on a 2TB eSata external LaCie Drive
There are a lot of edits. Mostly dissolves and simple edits

I tried FCP rescue, but it really didn’t do anything.

    This info help at all.
