So back to the original question. Is there a way to get FCP to “Look again”?

    Example:
Editing. External drive gets unplugged. Oops. Gets plugged back in. FCP says it cant find the files.
I want to press a button that says “Look again in the same location”

Since we dont have that amazingly basic choice, I have to find each file again. With 300 files it can be quite anoying.
These are files exported from another application and they are each in thier own folder, not in one folder.

    “Check Again” anyone?

Right now, I need to be working on a logo in Illustrator and listening to 3hrs worth of captured interviews on FCP. It would be real nice to not have FCP stop playback while typing this message.
    Frustrating!

Right about capturing Kevin, but I am using a new G5 Quad with a stripe set and only capturing at DVC Pro 50. Easy stuff. If it cant handle that and a render on After Effects simultaneously then it would be weaker than my 4 year old PC editor, which I know that my new G5 machine is much much stronger. FCP will allow you to capture and do something else, but not playback. What I wonder is why MUST it stop playing (timeline playback) when you switch to another application? There must be something in the code that tells it to stop. But why? Whats the point? It would be nice if the client could watch the edited program, or view a long clip of captured footage, while I am working on some other background application like Photoshop.

Yep that got it. I would think that if it knew it couldnt do it RT, then it would display as needing render.
So, I hate to show my lack of mac knowledge, but what is the keyboard shortcut for Render All? The pull down shows it is a symbol and an R. The symbol looks like a backslash with a line to the upper right. I am using the Bella Keyboard and it doesnt have any buttons with that symbol on it. Thanks for the previous reply.

By default when adding a camera to the timeline it not turned on even though you see it on output. To see the the layer camera when rendering, it has to be turned on or else it renders the standard fixed active camera.
Or so I just found out.

I am having a 7.0 rendering problem now. It will only render the Active Camera, not the animated camera. Any ideas?
Maybe yours is also rendering the wrong camera?

Thanks I will do that, but as I am a new convert to FCP and Apple, I dont know how they respond. On my last platform, they would only consider changes that were requested into the top 25 or so. It would be a great COW feature to have a Feature request list so that we could track interest and add our name to the list or at least have a list of descriptions of our requests so that when we submit we would be using the same verbage. Like cut and paste.

Yep, have PS, but what a pain to change text. This is strange. All of the hardware based editors on PC do this. The software plugin hands it to the host app and the host app sends it to the hardware for overlay. I am amazed that there is no real time CG. So putting a bug on a program makes a render. Bummer on a 60 minute finished program that wants to place an ID bug in the corner. On my Matrox Digisuite it was RT with Speed Razor in 1997 uncompressed. Look at the offerings of Axio. Wow at the real time overlays. Someone at AJA and Decklink need to wake up. Hopefully Matrox will port Axio.
