Ok, that explains it. Or put another way, FCP to Motion is a one shot deal.
Thanks. -
Thanks, but I think we are a little off track as to what my goal is.
I want to open the Motion Clip in FC replace one of the layers with another video clip, then Right Click and open in Motion to tweak.Imagine you stacked 10 video clips in FCP, then sent to Motion built an elaborate effect, then the client says chang out shot 5.
What would you do? -

Problem is that the 720p Varicam files are actually 960 X 720. The instruction set in the code tells the application that it is 1280. Not all applications look for this instruction. Specifically Final Touch. When rendering to DVCPro HD 720 in Final Touch, there is a scale that occurs and if you look at the final compared with the original (by fading between the two in FCP5) you will see that the Final Touch version has been zoomed in by about 10%. They (FT) says that the QuickTime file set has a language that is passing along this artificial size and some applications dont/cant know the artificial size and must know the native size. Also the DVCpro HD 720 Codec has a quicktime handler problem that keeps you from being able to render pixel to pixel (the 10% zoom problem) apparantly the instruction set includes outside frame video pixels and not just active video pixels. FCP has been patched to handle the problem. So if QuickTime fixes the problem, it will then be unfixed in FCP… It’s a pain in the arse!

April 7, 2006 at 6:42 pm in reply to: Capture video input level not adjustable on Kona LHThanks Jerry, I put a call into Clark at AJA. He was goint to take my email upstairs and ask about a tighter procamp integration.
I notice the new 1.2 Kona drivers have the controls, but no machine control. You cant shuttle to bars or hit play without having another person run the vtr while you set levels. It’s 1997. -

April 7, 2006 at 5:26 pm in reply to: Capture video input level not adjustable on Kona LHThanks, will try the new drivers. Seems to me that Kona would talk directly with FCP but that would be logical.
I know, I am a smart ass.

It prompts you to reconnect one file at a time. Not good if you have hundreds of files in dozens of folders. It seems so obvious that FCP should first assume them to be in the same location.
I realise a drive shouldnt be removed. Guy in the other room bumped the powersupply.

There was some kind of bug. I killed the Boris Continuum DVE effect and it was fine. But even with the effect doing nothing the render was half black. It is the only DVE effect in all the plug ins that would allow me to do a scale that was H and V unlocked.
So I couldnt anamoprhic UN squeeze some tall and skinny shots.
Through all my checking and testing I went into Sequence Settings and Loaded the Sequence Preset. It didnt change any values in the display, but it did allow my renders to start working correctlyagain. Go figure. Thanks for your help and tips.

Thanks. I will move all the files next time it wants to do a reconnect on a large project. I will try the auto save also.
Doesnt it seem logical that the first thing FCP should do, is look again?
We should send this in mass for a Feature request. -
Ok, thumbnails are good but renders are bad.
Thanks for helping thus far. Big stress. Clients client was coming too.

Where is that? I tried assigning a new folder for it but still rendering black
