Capture video input level not adjustable on Kona LH
Posted by Dan Powers on April 7, 2006 at 4:38 pmI am attempting to capture component analog on the Kona LH on FCP5 and the video adjustments are grayed out.
As usual a beta tape has come in with levels that are off.
How do you adjust on capture? I dont really want to color correct this after it has been edited. Thanks,

April 7, 2006 at 5:15 pmDan- Have you loaded your Kona LH control panel? Here is the AJA kona support page: https://www.aja.com/support_kona.html. It has a proc amp where you can adjust brightness (gamma). Apply your setting THEN launch FCP.
Hope this helps.

April 7, 2006 at 5:26 pmThanks, will try the new drivers. Seems to me that Kona would talk directly with FCP but that would be logical.
I know, I am a smart ass.

April 7, 2006 at 5:53 pmDan- I should have also explained that FCP takes control of the Kona card when once its launched and you can’t make any adjustments in the Kona Control Panel. Once you make the adjustments THEN launch FCP the adjustments remain in effect. Not real intuitive but it works.

April 7, 2006 at 6:42 pmThanks Jerry, I put a call into Clark at AJA. He was goint to take my email upstairs and ask about a tighter procamp integration.
I notice the new 1.2 Kona drivers have the controls, but no machine control. You cant shuttle to bars or hit play without having another person run the vtr while you set levels. It’s 1997. -

April 7, 2006 at 7:56 pmDan- You are right. You’ll notice there’s even an interface for proc amp settings in FCP’s log and capture settings tab… but they are grayed out. Maybe a little prodding will help activate those controls RIGHT IN FCP.
Oh, and machine control in the control panel! Now we’re making progress. Aja promotes it as it making your G-5 a virtual VTR….. but without play, rewind and fast forward what kind of VTR is it? Geeze Dan now that you have me thinking about it why not a RECORD button too!
Let’s see….. how about going straight to mpeg2 directly from tape IN REAL TIME!

April 8, 2006 at 11:13 pmMaybe I’m wrong, but I don’t think you can change input controls in component or SDI. In composite the controls will not be grayed out. At least, that’s the way it was with my ancient board back in the day.
