Try setting your mask properties to reverse or invert, can’t remember what the option is call since I’m not in front of my editing computer. That might work.

I think if you just add a clip to the last clip it will automaticly add more time. Have you tried that or does your last clip in the sequence get cut off at the 10 min mark?

If that doesn’t work it should be somewhere in your “Project Prefrences” or “timeline” settings.

Yeah,

I just wanted to make sure that I wasn’t missing out on some magical 4.3 HD option that I didn’t know about since HD is pretty new to me.

The spot is actually already in After Effects. I had already done what you suggested but I had used the HD clip in a SD 4.3 and scaled down but it didn’t look good. So now I’ll re render out as an SD wide and center it in the 4.3:)

When you initially set up your project are you sure you selected the widesceen (16/9) option under the sequence settings? If you accidently clicked Standard or 4.3 then that’s the problem.

Hmmm?

In CS4 it should bring the Adobe Media Encoder (AME) up when you select export, is that not happening? When AME comes up you will have tons of options including AVI format. It will also show how much of the project will be exported (Lower Left side of screen displays moveable slidebars of project).

If AME does not pop up then I’m not sure whats going on. I hated AME when I first started using CS4 but now I can’t imagin not having it.

I think I know whats going on here. after you drop your footage into a new comp, there is a little button at the bottom of the video window. It’s just to the right of the “1 view” dropdown arrow, it’s a rectangle with a line and an arrow point on each end above it. If you hover over it with your mouse it’s called “Toggle pixel aspect ratio correction” Click that and see if it makes your comp appear full wide (16.9).

You don’t want to “export” out, you’ll want to add you comp to the render que and then select the various settings under the “lossless” tab. Make sure to select the “stretch” box then select your desired settings. That’s a very fast rundown on the render out procedure but there’s much more to it than that. Just start messing with all the settings to figure it all out & read the AE outputting instructions at Adobe.com as well.

My guess is that it’s your low amount of Ram. If you can, I would get a minimum of 4GB, 6 or 8 would be optimal. That would be in the PC world anyway, not sure about Mac. That comp size sounds pretty big too, could be that.

yeah the whole effect will have to come from AE. However it doesn’t need to be so elaborate that you see all the hair strands growing individually but more of quick burst of a hairdo. Kinda like in nature shows where you see a flower bud burst into a full open flower when they use time lapse (If that makes any sense).

I think I may have come up with something that might do the trick but if anyone else has any more suggestions I’d love to hear them.

The shot will be on a fixed tripod. It will be a 3/4 shot, meaning it will not be straight on the actor but shooting into the mirror seeing the front and side of the actor.

Graham, I had originally thought of something like that but I dont think it will look real enough without the hair actually being on the head. Plus you would have to rotoscope out the tracking points on the bald head before the hair appears (which may have to happen with other methods).

I guess I was just hoping someone had a moving morph type effect technique that I don’t know.
