  • Thanks for the feedback Andrew.

Re a new system, what are Premier Pro users’ current thoughts on Mac vs. PC? When I switched to Mac in 2009, my WinXP PP setup was pretty unstable with a lot of crashing. I’ve enjoyed improved Mac stability (not just for video editing) and overall features/experience. But I’m wondering if Win 7 with PP is similarly stable, with some possible hw cost/feature advantages (ex. HP Zbook).

I can confirm that the medium (“iPod”) export setting in iMovie 09 works. I imported a H.264 file that I created with Premiere using the “iPod large” setting and exported w\ iMovie. It plays w\ no issues on the iTouch.

Hopefully Adbobe will correct this in an update.

I am having the same issue — very frustrating given the “iPod” setting in Media Encoder.

There are a couple of thread on the Adobe forums that suggest the iPod setting in iMovie works, but I am hoping there is a *Premiere* solution even though I am using a Mac. One of the threads suggests is related to the QuickTime version required by iTunes.

Did you find a solution yet?

I did a test capture w\ iMovie ’09 and it breaks scenes into separate .dv files. Although the files are automatically pulled into the “iMovie Events” library, they can be accessed and relocated/sorted, and appear to import into Premiere CS4 w\ no issues.

Can any of you think of drawbacks to this approach? I am still new to Mac and not familiar with pros/cons of .mov (Premiere default) vs. .dv (iMovie). Any reason to choose one over the other?

    Thanks,

I have CS4 for Mac, and this problem still exists. Scene detect creates one monolithic .mov file and breaks into subclips within the project used to capture. So it’s impossible to delete unwanted clips or sort unrelated clips after capture.

I agree with Ryan, scrubbing the tape and setting in/out points is too inefficient. IMO, this is a fundamental flaw that Adobe should have addressed in CS4. A tapeless camera will solve this, but I’m not ready to make that purchase yet and I have a large number of mini DV tapes I need to capture.

Ryan or Corbin (or anyone else unhappy with this), did you ever find a solution?

Is there another free or very low $$ Mac program that can do scene detect and produce multiple files? I’m going to take a look a iMovie (I’m relatively new to Mac) but based on experience w iPhoto, I’m not counting on it.

    Thanks,
    Danny
