Thanks. obj is working for me so I’ll stick with that.

    Cheers

    Hi there,

    It’s 3D Invigorator Pro v5.0.8 running on AE CS5.

The options I’m getting on export are zxo, fbx, obj, 3ds, lwo, fac, c4d, dxf.

Only fbx, obj and 3ds are supported in Flame.

    Thanks,

I get that now. Looks like I was thinking of FBX files.

I mostly use Autodesk Flame, but it can’t do rounded bevels or create objects from masks as well as Invigorator. It’s also more restricted on colouring parts of the object.

As I said, obj is working well enough, but if I can find some way to bring colours, or rather textures, across too it might be very handy in the future.

I don’t think lights would be useful as I can do that in Flame.

    Hi Edward,

I thought 3ds files carried textures over. whereas obj dare just the geometry. Is that not right?

    Hi again.

That tick box keeps resetting to on, and now even if I turn it off it takes ages to load again.

The tooltips seem to be working too. Is there a preferences txt file or something like that? perhaps it’s a permissions issue. Although that wouldn’t explain why it worked in the first place.

    Any ideas?

    Oh wow! What a difference.

I really wish I’d asked sooner now.. heh heh.

Thanks very much for the tip.

    Hi, Thanks for the response.

Has anyone got any views on PC vs Mac for AE?

Or any specific hardware or OS suggestions?

If we go the PC route they will probably install AE on the existing PC in here. I’ve just looked up its specs:

    Win XP Prof
    X5450 @ 3.00Ghz 8 CPUs
    3GB Memory
    Nvidia Quadro FX 3700

    How does that sound?

    Better than a G5 I guess?

I suppose I should put a different OS and more RaAM on it though?

    Cheers

  • thanks everyone.

thanks neil the engineers mentioned they wanted to use Keyspan and felt they could get the system working. i felt perhaps we might get problems with software clashes so i posted here.

in a way this is a science project. the suite in question is smoke and after effects, and around these jobs i’m looking at ways of getting avid projects into the 2 systems.

as you can probably tell i’m not the engineer who’s setting this system up. i’m the operator and using after effects and smoke.

i’m going to recommend the dual boot method too and see what they say.

    thanks for all your help.

  • thanks guys.

the deck is a dvw-a500p. i feel it’s a clash of software rather than the deck though.

i see what you’re saying bob. that’s a good idea. but it seems to work fairly well at moment without capturing.

i mostly need to pull projects off of an isis but i thought it might be handy to be able to capture via avid too.

what kind of suffering do you mean? will i get more crashes and stuff?

    cheers

    that’s great thankyou.

i didn’t know the correct terminology. premultiplied sounds like using a matte and a fill from tape (i’m an old linear editor) and straight sounds like how things work in after effects.

i’ll try those options and see what i get.

    cheers
