Can you share a link to the template?

Go to Composition Settings and set it to the size you want your final video to be. Then scale your layer(s) accordingly.

Alternatively, you can use the Region of Interest tool to draw a box around the area you want to keep, then select Crop Composition to Region of Interest.

I would also vote for ProRes. It’s been around for nearly a decade and works well in most editing applications, and I see no reason it won’t continue to.

    And it’s “visually lossless.” 😉

  • It should be as simple as luma keying your black and white clip twice and using it as a track matte for both image layers. Here’s how to do it:

Drop your black and white clip in the timeline. Use the Luma Key or Extract effect on your black and white clip to remove the black background. It should now be growing white spots on a transparent background. Drop your image underneath this keyed clip and set its track matte property to Alpha Matte (hit F4 on your keyboard to see the track matte options).

To repeat this with your second image, simply duplicate your black and white clip and either invert it or switch the key from dark to bright. Drop your second image underneath it and again set it to Alpha Matte.

  • The clean plate will make things easier. Can you mask or rotoscope the head and use the track matte technique described above?

  • Not sure exactly what you’re trying to do, but this will get you started. Put your shockwave layer above your footage layer. Set your footage layer’s track matte to “Alpha Matte Inverted”. When the shockwave appears, the footage underneath will begin to disappear.

Depending on the shot, you can use motion tracking to follow the finger and then use a solution found here to trace the path.

However, unless the finger perfectly draws the text, it will likely look messy. Your best bet is to probably manually follow the finger to draw a path and then keyframe the stroke completion accordingly.

Never had that issue. Did it used to work normally for you? If so, the issue can usually be tracked back to a change in your system or software.

You could also email VideoCopilot. They’re usually pretty responsive.

  • Unfortunately that is normal. Effects applied in AE won’t affect clips in Premiere through dynamic link. The benefit of dynamic link is if you need to change the text or tweak the lower third in any way, you don’t need to re-export it, re-import it, and drop it in the timeline again.

To add your blur, you could export (or use Dynamic Link!) from After Effects a clip with an alpha channel that contains a solid shape of the area you want to blur and use that as a track matte in Premiere to add your blur to a specific area.

Sounds like you have to do it manually by keyframing the position.
