I tried a PC for downloading the file and then opening it with a PC program. Windows Media Player plays the video fine.
What can I do, now that I have the video in a working form state-side, to convert it or import it into FCP to begin the editing process with the file? It is 28 minutes long and 13.7 GB.

Thanks everyone for your help. It will help me from banging my head unnecessarily against the wall in frustration, when it has to be taken care of at the other end.

Thanks. This MPEG Streamclip program process isn’t working either. I dragged & dropped the file into the MPEG Streamclip box and got an error message “File open error: unsupported file type” (open anyway) (OK) options. I hit open anyway and I saw nothing that appeared to be processing, except when I first started a box came up saying timecode breaks have been detected. Do you want to fix? I said yes. THen a message opened saying no beginning timecode detected and the whole process seemed to stop—the rolling sunburst on the side disappeared. Then the program was sluggish beyond that time too. I have now done this process 2 times and got the same result.
    Any other ideas from here?

October 30, 2012 at 7:43 pm in reply to: Silent Audio Tracks?

Yup—I found some more silent tracks! So I cleared the tracks, deleted them and added more as replacements. Now they have come up as silent. I think there is something in my settings that is introducing new elements with specific settings—silent mode.
Is there somewhere in the settings that can set something like this—and therefore can be changed back to active mode with new track introductions?

Thanks for responding Jerry. They are shot with a Panasonic HVX-200 camera using DVCPRO HD (1080p30), Linear PCM, Timecode format. I think the problem is more likely FCP rather than the clips (but diagnosis needs to start somewhere). I suspect it is in the FCP project settings. When I move the audio clips to different tracks (from tracks 3 & 4 to tracks 5 & 6) and delete the empty tracks the audio is audible. I used a project from someone else to modify or add to it. So when I copied the project, deleted the clip files in the timeline to add new ones, I suspect their tracks were set silent and I duplicated all the settings along with the project. However, when I asked them about it they didn’t know anything about it.

So—I have been able to work around it. Also, when I create a new project, starting from scratch the problem does not exist. So, in trying to make it easier and have our settings match by duplicating things I duplicated their ignorant settings too.

If I continue to have problems, that is, if my diagnosis is incorrect, I’ll pay Jerry, the veterinary doctor and his barn-yard pals (Creative Cow pokes) another visit.
    Thanks again!

May 25, 2011 at 8:46 pm in reply to: Smooth Slowmotion Video Methods?

We don’t need the “Matrix slow-motion”. Just smooth 1/3 or 1/4 the speed. Sorry about the misunderstanding. The suggestions are great so far—and easy.
What I have been seeing a lot of these days is a camera slowly passing through space as fast action is slowed down in the distance to a 1/4 the speed. Or some action is slowed down (without camera movement) to 1/4 the speed—yet still really smooth.
    Thanks genius gents!

April 4, 2011 at 4:22 pm in reply to: Jiggly Video with VHOLDR Contour Video Camera?

    Sarcasm is not helpful, Dave!
This is a small B-roll camera (VHOLDR HD by Contour) that is meant to give that “ride-along” POV perspective. It was moved smoothly on a mono-pod stick, not like going for a ride on a bull. The video has a Parkinson’s disease like wobble, particularly at the sides.
    Any “actually” helpful suggestions?

    Wow Rafael—Thanks for the help!
How can I learn how to make all the different settings and adjustments and which compressions to make? If I don’t do this all day every day it seems like a lot to learn for the varying needs and uses. What would be the most helpful source from which to learn?

From FCP I “export using QT Conversion”
Leave the setting at QT Movie
    Compression Setting is: H.264
    Compressor quality is at “Medium”
Key Frames is; Every “24” frames
    Encoding: Best quality (multi-pass)
The Dimensions are set to 1280×720 (1248×702)
Audio is Integer 48.000kHz 16 Bit Stereo
“Prepare for internet Streaming (Fast Start)”
On a 3′ 29″ video it compresses an output file of 455.1MB.

That is the settings. I always try to maximize my quality since I hate the pixelating at lower quality.
Perhaps I need a lesson on output procedures.

I did not see the “Demo-reels” forum. Overwhelmed by the variety. I posted there now.
Thanks for the suggestion and help.
