double click the clips in the 4×3 timeline to load them into the viewer, then go up to the motion tab. Go down to the distort menu and find the aspect ratio slider (I think its called aspect ratio, im not in front of my comp at the moment) slide it to either 33 or -33 (I cant remember which) and that should letterbox the clips within the 4×3 frame.
From your description I think this is what your trying to do. Hope it helps.

January 18, 2008 at 5:55 pm in reply to: HVX 1080 24pa mode onto tape or p2 card only? The tape drive of the HVX-200 supports mini-DV only (Standard Def) In order to get ANY HD out of the camera you need either a P2 card or a Firestore FS-100.

I saw a thread over in the AE board where some of the guys where saying that thier renders would stop after 10 minutes, no matter what project they were working on. They had to go back to 7.3.1, and all was well.

Did they use a slate on set?
Typically if you are shooting two system sound, you need a slate that has the scene/take info on it, and then the ac calls out that same info. When he claps the slate thats your sync point. Mark and in point on the clip at the moment the slate claps shut, then in the corresponding audio file mark and inpoint on the waveform where the clap starts. When you go to sync your audio and video, instead of using timecode, use “inpoint”.If you already knew this I apologize, im just throwing that out there.

January 14, 2008 at 6:29 pm in reply to: Aja Kona a/v drift, dropped frames, unreliable playbackCraig,
I’ve done what your trying to do, it worked great. First off, why are you going through the switcher? Couldn’t you plug the compnent staight into the LHe (w/ some BNC to RCA adapters, I only mention it because thats what I did). Is your xbox setup to output 720p? With my LH I never got the audio to sync up, and I would get drift like you are describing, until I stopped using the analogue audio inputs on the Kona. I had a M-Audio MobilePre ($150 at guitar center) I made a custom easy setup based on aja dvcpro hd 720p60. I changed the audio input to Maudio MobilePre and used an RCA to 3/4″ adapter to get the xbox sound into the MobilePre. After that I never had a problem with audio sync again. Since theres no way to genlock the xbox to the Kona I imagine thats why your getting the drift and sync issues. Hope that helps some. For some reason pulling audio in through the MobilePre solved the issue without having to drop thousands of dollars on a compnent to hdsdi converter and an aja gen10.

Reference is sort of like a drummer for a band. It keeps everything in sync with each other. With video things tend to get screwy if all your devices (deck, nle, monitor) are not in sync with one another. The aja Gen 10 will do a reference for almost all flavors of video and its economical.
So with this device, you set your Gen 10 to the desired setting and feed the signal through bnc cable to the “ref in” ports on your aja card and you deck. After that life should be peachy.
Heres the wiki on signal generators, it has a a little more in depth description than i provided. Signal Genereators. Youll be interested in the part at the bottom, sync pulse generators.

Wow. That was pretty spectacular. I wish you had a LONG tutorial on everything you did in that vid. Im a AE n00b, and Id love to be able to learn how you guys did a lot of that stuff. I really thought it was cool.

any issues with it so far?

well, I got in touch with some there who knew a little bit more about this “hack” He said in the menu it was listed at 24pN, but when he dropped it into FCP the file played at 24, not 23.976. Which makes perfect sense since the base frequency of the camera is 50 making it impossible to get the 23.xxx. Its a ridiculous way to do things, but its what they are dead set on doing. I threw my two cents on the table and they can take it or leave it.

I agree 100%. Im trying to help some people who seem dead set on remaining helpless. I didnt know if there was some magical trick in cinematools or the FRC that might do the trick to get the 24 over 50 stuff to straight 24. As I suspected, no such magic exists, unless I can find Gandolf.
