there could be several issues, why the disk wouldn´t be played within the player!

in general it should be played, but there is no transcoding-reason why it should NOT be played.

I would suspect the player itself or maybe a bad optical media, if it wont be played in other player as well.

please make sure, that you´ve got good media-typs like verbatim.

some older player couldn´t play BD-R media, in that reason you should test the disk with other players as well.

if you set your link to your BD-main-menu correct, you don´t need to worry!

please tell your client that tis is a special case of BD-player, all players that I know besides philips don´t have a HOME-button.

in that case I wont see a problem. I should test the disk in different players from different manufacturer.

will the disk be replicated?

Hi Santos,
normally there is no HOME-button on a blu-ray-remote-control.

if there is a home-button it might be a philips BD-player, I have two of them, too. but this button will not lead you back to the BD-main-menu, it will bring you to the players (software-) menu.

but to get back to main menu you normally hit the top-menu-button on the remote-control, while the BD is playing.

hi chris,
it´s much easier to upscale than to change your frame-rate, so I would go 1080p23.98.

to conform your video to the new frame-rate is very simple, just drag your mov-file onto the cinema-tool application. maybe it is asking you to create a database at that moment, create a new one and then you´ll see your video and a conform-button on the lower right. press conform and it´ll ask you for the frame-rate.

choose 23.98 – there you go.

what you need to know: cinema tools is changing the meta-datas of your source-file, so you might create a backup-file first.

to upscale your film would be very easy if you would use mpeg streamclip (freeware – google is your friend).

hi chris,
to create a BD from a MOV-file is simple, but in your case it´s not possible because of the BD-specs.

720p24 is not part of BD-specs, you should go 720p60 or 720p50 (for europe).

if your source-film is shot on 720p24, you can upscale it to 1080p24 and conform it to 1080p23.98 for use within encore CS4.

this is necessary, because encore CS4 can´t handle 1080p24 as it is part of the BD-specs, it could only handle 1080p23.98.

with encore CS5 it is possible to use 1080p24 as well.

so your workflow should be as follow:
1. export self-contained from FCP
2. upscale to 1080p24 using compressor or mpeg streamclip
3. conform the mov to 1080p23.98 using apples cinema tools
4. encode the file with the new chapter-marker (using compressor)
4. import the asset into encore

if you would like to have chapter-marker at a specific position you need to import the MOV into encore and set the chapter-marker over there as well, it cant read out chapter-markers out of a MOV-file.

NOTE: if you´re conforming to another frame-rate you´ll loose all your chapter-markers, in that reason it is necessary to re-set them.

hi chris,
if you have started authoring your BD within encore, you can create a DVD out of it easily.

all you need to set if the output to DVD instead of BD, encored should rescale your films and menus to SD-res, while outputting.

the quality is depending on your transcoding-settings.

hi Alley,
there could be several reasons why this error-message will appear.

mainly it is an issue of the OLD FCP-sourc-code that now is about 10-15 jears old.

one reason could be, that you have to much sequenzes open at the same time, so close the sequenzes you wont use.

othere reason could be that you used CMYK-graphics within your sequenzes. graphics needs to be RGB not CMYK. uncompressed 8 or 10bit should not have a problem with it, but I know that othere codecs will!

there are also other reasons why this could happen, these are just some samples, mainly this is an issue with FCP7. we all need a new version of FCP with 64bit-support (it´s still 32bit) and new source-code.

if you have 147min runningtime and 192kbit audio, that leads you to 7.2MBit average.

I guess you just need the AVC-intra-quicktime-component, that will be found in library>quicktime

maybe you know someone who have installed FCP7 and could give it to you.

It´s worth a try.
