    Hi James,
    two things:

    1.) SCC-files only working with NTSC-framerates
2.) if you would like to use “real” subtitels, you need to create a FAB-file according to encore-specification.

adobe encore could implement subtitles into DVDs and BDs – forget the preview-window, especially SCC will not be displayed. if you need to see the result, just mux your BD and preview it from the muxed BD-folder, use a dedicated BD-player-software

    Hey Carlos,
first of all: resuming is not possible to implement using encore, therefor you need one of the pro-tools.

if you like to change the audio or subtitles, set the dedicated audio/subtitle-track and link back to the same button which you use for the audio/subtitel-function.

    that´s the usual way…

is it a real subtitle, imported as STL or created within DVDSP, or is it a closed caption?

have you checked the multiplexed output on your harddisc with apple dvd-player?

I´ve never heard of a problem like that!

    david,
have you set any UOPs, so DVD-players are not allowed to turn on/off subs?

    Hey Jamie,
first of all – you can´t import CC that´s embedded in a MOV-file. if you´ve got a SCC-file you need to import it to the video-stream. be awared that closed caption only work with NTSC-video.

here you´ll find the details how to implement:

    Oki,
that´s the DVD-spec for what DVD-player needs to be able to read from replicated discs. this is very theoretical, and in fact DVD-spec says 10Mbit for the entire stream (in detail. 10.08). but it´s totally different when you´re using DVD +/-R media, because of a total different reflection-effect of the substrate.

for +/-R-media most authors here will agree 8.5Mbit is max, some other might advice to go a bit below (7.5-8Mbit).

edit: no native as well 😉

    Farhan,
don´t follow the advice accoding to bitrates – this doesn´t work. 9.8Mbit is a much to high bitrate, because of three main reasons:

    1. the DVD-spec allow 10MBit for the entire stream (video+audio), for example if you´re using PCM- (uncompressed WAV/AIF) sound your bitrate will be to high and the DVD wont be playable.

    2. another reason NOT to use high value bitrates is that every encoder (especially when using single-pass VBR) has bitrate-peaks that are a lot higher than the max. set bitrate.

    3. most DVD-player (hardware) are only capable to playback DVD +/-R-media with maximum bitrate at 8.5Mbit, as DVD +/-R does not reflect as much as a replicated disc. the result is that the red laser wont be reflected enough so the disc wont be playing correct.

    Ginger,
don´t trust the preview. do a multiplexing and have a look at the muxed VIDEO_TS-folger using a DVD-software-player.
