    Nicole,
text-highlights are a NO GO in DVD-authoring, as you can see it will look horrible…. and this will allways be that way.

this happens because highlight-overlays are 2bit only and has NO anti-aliasing.

most graphic-artists (especially web-designer) have no idea what will happen within a DVD. they are allways thinking in their nice mouse-over-effects! these things will not work in a DVD.

sorry – this is an old 80th-media! 😉

    chris,
if you´re on 4:3 it could be more – but 16:9 is limited to 18button by spec.

    zeitanker annotation-edit could do this easily! it´s a mac-software I´m using.

if you need to create a DCP – you need to conform 25ps to 24fps, subtitles with DCPs are implemented with a XML-file.

    24fps is an interop- , 25fps is an SMPTE-DCP.

  • Gary,
sorry – but this is not true!

FCP7 and FCP X could be installed paralell, but could NOT be running at the same time.

  • Gary,
if you have the chance, try to grab an old version of FCP7 suite. there is DVD Studio pro in the bundle which has some nice templates.

    Farhan,
you are talking about assets, but you don´t tell us what specific assets they are. MOV, AVI or transcoded H264 and AC-3.

I would guess the 18GB is a uncompressed video/audio-file, while encore is calculating 1GB to be transcoded H264+AC3.

    Hi,
if you would like to have dedicated (frame-accurate) chapter-marker which you set in premiere you should use the dynamic linking with encore and transcode the video in encore.

I would advice to use AC-3-transcoding instead of WAV.

    Layth,
DVD can only be SD-quality. it´s an old fashioned mid 80th-media.

it could be 720x576px for PAL or 720x480px for NTSC. if you would like to have a higher resolution, you need to create a blu-ray, which could be 1920×1080 or 1280×720, and of course could handle Sd-video as well.

    Hey Scott,
sorry for my delay on your post. have been busy within the last weeks ketching a deadline.

encore could easily handle compressor-encoded AC3. it wont be transcoded if you´ve choosen AC3 instead of WAV in encore-transcoding/project-settings. you could do only neither nor – not both at the same time.

by the way, if you would like to create AC3 for BD, you can create a generic AC3 with 640kbit/s – this will work also.

encore is low end (and buggy) – even apple DVD SP have been better – you could do scripting and a lot other stuff, as mostly requied.

toast is a consumer-product, which has no professional authoring-capabilities. but it´s a required tool in all authors toolset.

  • Bill,
which version do you use? I know there was a problem in the past with the encoder of adobe, which used RGB-values instead of YUV, so pictures gone darker.

    should NOT happen with CS6.
