There’s no magic to it.
Apple get hold of the best quality source available. Better than most of us can get access to. They have a skilled team of compressionists using a variety of tools (I hear that they still use cleaner as well as compressor) and they use preprocessing tools to the full effect, tweaking for each clip, unlike most people out there.
That said, I don’t think they have done as well as they could have with this clip, the blacks aren’t black!

Join the club. I stopped using compressor a few years ago because of issues like this. Upgrading didn’t improve matters either.
You’re best off investing in Telestream Episode.

Thanks for letting us know the outcome of this.
For others that are reading this, take this as a warning to stay away from Vista.
I’ve personally witnessed far too many people suffer with it. Like I said in my earlier post, it’s a total and utter train wreck and should never have been released in its current form.
Shame on Microsoft.

You can’t really do much other than increase the datarate.
What is the footage of?

Including:
Datarate
CBR or VBR
1 or 2 pass
Deinterlace applied?
etc

I think to real nail down what the issue is here, and my thoughts are that it’s some low level conflict with possibly Vegas or other codec conflict, is too try and install Squeeze on another PC with Vista if you can get access to one.
Obviously if it produces H.264 content with video then there’s an issue with your Vista/Vegas PC and that I’m afraid is something that Sorenson support probably can’t fix.
If it doesn’t work on the alternative PC then it’s pretty certain that Squeeze-H.264 and Vista don’t mix well but that’s very unlikely
One last thing, you haven’t installed any of those ‘Mega-CODEC-Packs’ have you?

I’ve never used the simulator to do anything other than to test menu functionality.
Have you tried playing the files in Quicktime player, VLC or actually burning a DVD?

If you’re producing files for OnlyView then I think you’re going about it the wrong way. Onlyview tiles images and video together to produce the huge and odd sizes they project.
You should contact them to see exactly what they work with.
