I mean avoid at all costs. VP6 and Sorenson spark are delivery only codecs. Of course if that’s all you’ve got then you don’t have a choice, the quality will usually be rubbish.

What format are you planning on encoding to?
MPEG-2, H.264 or VC-1?

The big boys use commercial solutions from the likes of:
Rhozet
Anystream
Digital Rapids
Telestream
etcor develop in house solutions based around things like:
ffmpeg
x264
avisynth
virtualdub

I’d always choose ProRes over DV but it’s debatable when used fro transcoding VOBs, no one could argue that if it’s a commercial quality DVD VOB then ProRes eats DV for breakfast quality-wise

1. Never use FLV as source.
2. When you say ‘8kf/s’ do you mean 8 keyframes per second or…..?

“Can I take my 960×720 and fill the window with a high quality picture?”
960×720 is non-square pixel 16:9
1280×720 is square pixel 16:9Youtube, like everything else on a computer, use square pixels.
If you uploaded 960×720 to youtube the image would looked very squashed indeed.
As such you need to resize to 1280×720 first.
