Thanks Michael! I’m actually watching some tutorials as we speak.

I’ll pay special attention to trimming if it’s as helpful as you say.

    Hey Chris,
I totally hear what you’re saying. I know it’s not right to compare, but when you’re no longer learning something on a system from scratch, it’s difficult not to relate stuff from one program to the other.

For example, I almost never use trim. I never find much use for it, so why would I use it so often just because I’m cutting in Avid?

I want to try and learn with an open mind, but what hampers me is that it’s taken me years to become as proficient and fast with FCP as I am (and I’m always learning new things as well), and I’m worried it will take me that long again to get knowledgeable AND quick, because as we know from clients’ demands, you have to be fast with deadlines.

But I put this message out because I genuinely want to work at this and get better. I really appreciate your comments and explanation, it helps a lot!

Thank you Andrew. I think training is great, but it’s usually VERY expensive. Otherwise that would be the first option.

Thanks everyone. In the end the client must have realized how difficult this would be because I just ended up editing a piece that will be shown on each screen individually. Luckily it was a rush job so I don’t think they had the time to really do much else.

Thank you Craig, that is really good to know. I wasn’t aware of the simple switch between m4v and mp4.

Thanks so much for all your comments. I shall hold my hands up and say what an idiot I am. After a while I thought I would check the sequence settings to see if I was missing something and ‘filters’ was UNchecked under Render control. D’oh! But I love it when it’s something simple and you don’t have to go re-installing your system again!

Thanks for all your help everyone, really appreciate it. I started going through the arduous process of copying and pasting the Excel sheet into my .srt file when I received a new and correct one from the client. From there it was easy to use Title Exchange.

Hi Andrew, thanks for the reply. That link didn’t work.

I actually found Title Exchange which works perfectly. But now, I was sent a revised srt file that is just gobbledygook along with an excel file with all the times and translations. How can I make that Excel file into a usable SRT file? Or, I guess, how do I make an SRT file at all? I don’t have any subtitling software. THank you!

    Hi Chris,
I am definitely going to give this a try when I have a minute. Something is definitely wrong for all four projects I’m working on not be able to use filters.
