Try re-setting the motherboard – it’s a little red dot near the PCI slots – full details can be found on Apple.com by searching under Motherboard reset (I use the Applecare section of Sherlock to find all this kind of stuff)

Rememeber that the Windows version is just a preview release and may be full of bugs that’ll be gone on full release.

otutilitylib is part of Open Transport, is is missing or hasn’t loaded on startup. If it’s not in your extensions folder in the system folder
you’ll either need to do a custom install from the OS 9 CD of just Open transport, or in some cases re-install the complete system.

If they won’t open in Quicktime you can either try VLC player – https://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html
Or install the DivX Mac client – https://www.divx.com and XviD – https://www.xvid.org/ which will allow th movie to open in QT player.

You still might not be able to play it if it was encoded in a strange PC-only codec. AVI is a rubbish, totally outdated format (no av sync, not streamable, not error-resistant, etc) yet there are many people who still swear by it – all of them PC users.

You’ll need to install the Indeo 5 codec after booting into OS 9. You should then be able view/convert the avi.

It costs but will do the job for you.
As Quicktime is far more than just a simple player, jukebox facilities like playlists are not really called for. Players that feature playlists generally don’t offer the other powerful features found in Quicktime.

An alternative is to assemble all your movies in a NLE like FCP or iMovie and then export from there as a reference movie (non self-contained).

Apple Compressor 2 does a fantastic job, using optical flow image analysis, it get’s close to the hardware based standards converters quality.

Forget cleaner XL – although it’s still being sold, it’s a dead product.

Procoder is excellent and can do Flash with the addition of a Flash plug-in from the likes of Wildform. http://www.wildform.com. I love the speed and quality of the MPEG-2 it spits out.
