Would you recommend that I remove all the apps i’ve already installed from FCP7 and then just re-install the whole lot once i’ve partitioned? I’m not running Lion at the moment so is this going to be an issue?

Now it’s still saying that I need 52.3GB of space, but it’s allowing me to install FCP7. The other apps say ‘upgrade’ next to them. Will it redo all of them and take another 50GB up or will it just install FCP?

As far as the shutter speed is concerned is it better to have as high a speed as possible to get the best effect just as long as it still allows correct exposure?

Josephus and Bill, thanks for the replies.

The subjects i’m wanting to use the effect on are people, just simply moving / running etc but the example of the fence helps to describe the effect.

My camera is a UK PAL Canon 60D so 50fps is the most I can get out of it, at 1080 it does a max of 25fps.

I’ve noticed a lot of the slomo footage i’ve seen has that invisible-typre blur around the subjects and screen edges, Josephus it occurs on your video also. Can this be reduced by tripod-mounting my camera and adjusting the shutter speed or is it just something that happens?

Oh and Josephus did you just use the speed ramp function to achieve the normal speed-slow-normal speed effect?

So Rafael, what would your suggestion be? Would you shoot at 50fps and then conform the clip in the timeline or forget conforming and just retime using optical flow?

And if you wouldn’t shoot in 50fps does that mean I could shoot in 1080 rather than 720 (as 50fps can only be captured in 720 mode) and then just retime the footage?

Well after taking much advice from people on forums and the guy in the camera shop I finally went for the Canon 60D. I just thought in the end that for my purposes it made sense to save a few pennies and get that articulated screen too, I think it’s going to be a lifesaver!

I got the camera, a nice Tamron 17-50mm 2.8 VC lens, Manfrotto tripod and head, Lowepro bag, 32gb of storage and a spare battery for £1,460. The 7D body alone was £1,250 so I reckon i’ve made the right choice. I’m really chuffed with it.

Add to that the 50mm prime, 28-50mm, 42-75mm and 80-200mm Yashica lenses I just bought for £30 (with classic Yashica FX-2 camera) i’m pretty well placed to get some nice footage.

I’ve just ordered a C/Y Canon mount from Fotodiox for £20 so it’s worth a little punt to see if they work. I’ll be mainly using the camera for video so at least in Live View i’ll be able to get a good impression of the image to ensure correct focusing, exposure etc. If at least one of them give good results then i’ll be happy, the Yashica camera and 4 lenses only cost me £30! I hope the 50mm is the one to make me smile.
