PAL and / or NTSC
Hi
I’m aware of the regional uses of both these formats but there’s something i’d like to ask.
Is it noticeable if both formats are used in the same project? ie If I set up a PAL project and used a clip which was filmed on the NTSC setting on my camera would it be obvious or is it ok to do?
The reason I ask is that I own a Canon 60D (UK) which has a maximum PAL frame rate of 50fps. However on the NTSC setting it’s 60fps, which obviously enables better quality slow motion footage.
No I know it may make sense to do the whole project in NTSC, and that’s something else i’d like to ask. Is it ok to do this if my accepted format, in the UK, is PAL?
Sorry if these are stupid questions but i’d just like to clear it up.

Hi Daniel,
Yes, it is noticeable, and the more motion you have, the worse it gets. You will get an obvious jitter or blur, depending on whether you choose to add frames or blend as your export settings.
The bottom line is avoid frame conversion as much as possible. There are tools that can provide the conversion like Twixtor, or plugin from Videocopilot, but they demand long render times and the results aren’t near perfect.

So would suggest that I leave the NTSC settings alone on my camera and just stick to PAL?
