Guess: $9000 for a 12 core 64GB RAM version.

Crap…I wasn’t aware the prices were THIS high.
I had guessed that a 12 core 64GB RAM config was going to cost about $6000 … that’s looking more like $9000 now.

Relax on the offensive sarcasm. JKL cuts won’t push your processor or the GPU in that regard. We can go back and forth all day and list examples of “what ifs,” but why don’t we just wait and see how much real world impact it actually makes?

For day-to-day editing the mac pro won’t feel much faster than your iMac. When it comes time to render an H264, or convert between formats in compressor, that’s when the machine will operate much faster.
The davinci guys have already stated that they are quite happy with its GPU performance, but it will take many developers 1-2 years to fully utilize openCL.

Hi Dustin,
I’m in the unique position of owning two RAID5 systems: one of them is a Pegasus thunderbolt RAID, while the other is a Sans Digital USB3/eSATA enclosure. Both setups have 4 7200rpm disks inside.Benchmark wise, there’s no question, the Pegasus unit wins. But do I “feel” that difference while I’m editing? Hardly, if ever.
The Pegasus will do about 450MB/sec read, 300MB/sec write. The Sans Digital will do 170MB/sec read and 100MB/sec write with USB3. When I connect it with eSATA (via my lacie thunderbolt/eSATA adapter) it will do about 230MB/sec read, 140MB/sec write.
Of course, both the Promise and Sans Digital systems slow down substantially as they fill up, so remember that those numbers are with at least 60% free space. Hope this helps.
It should also be noted that I could buy 3 Sans Digital enclosures (including hard drives) for the price of 1 Pegasus RAID. At least those were the prices when I purchased them.

That feature needs to be set before you import. Enabling it after import does nothing. re-import your footage after that option is turned on and it should do the trick.

Could you be very specific and point out how to replicate these problems? I use my intuos 5 with Symphony 6.5 and have not experienced any issues. Running OSX 10.8 though, not Win7.
