    You’d need to provide more info before somebody could take a stab at this. What, exactly, happens to the other boxes while one is scaling up? Do they maintain the same gap between themselves and the expanding square, or does the gap diminish as the squares shrink?

    Let’s say the top center box expands, where do each of the other squares end up?

    I’m having trouble picturing the effect you’re trying to achieve.

    Why not just use 3D layers configured into a box?

    Assuming that 25% occurs at the last opacity keyframe, this should work:

    t = Math.min(transform.opacity.key(transform.opacity.numKeys).time,time);
    thisComp.layer(“layer1”).transform.position.valueAtTime(t)

    I can help you with your syntax:

    intPixelsPerSecond = -60;
    x=position[0]-(time-inPoint)*intPixelsPerSecond;
    [x,value[1]]

    Here’s an example that might get you headed in the right direction. Create a null object and put it at the bottom of the layer stack (below your grid layers). Apply a slider control to the null and apply this expression to it:

    posterizeTime(3); //3 flashes per second
    Math.floor(random(thisComp.numLayers – 1)) + 1

    Apply this expression to the Opacity property of each of your grid layers:

    if (thisComp.layer(“Null 1”).effect(“Slider Control”)(“Slider”) == index)0 else 100;

    One grid layer at a time should flash randomly at the frequency set in the posterizeTime statement. This assumes your null layer is named “Null 1” and that it is the only layer in the comp besides your grid layers. You’d have to adjust things to accomodate your setup, and whatever property you want to affect.

    Basically, the slider control is “publishing” a random layer number of the layer that should flash.

    Probably something like this:

    posterizeTime(5);
    x = Math.floor(random(40))*64;
    y = Math.floor(random(40))*64;
    [x,y] + [32,32]

    You could use linear() to remap the values, like this:

    audioMax = 25;
    completionMax = 0;

    audioMin = 0;
    completionMin = 100;

    a= thisComp.layer(“Audio Amplitude”).effect(“Both Channels”)(“Slider”);
    linear(a,audioMin,audioMax,completionMin,completionMax)

    Fiddle with the first four values until you get it the way you want.

    The Slider and Angle controls are applied as effects (Effects > Expression Controls).

    A null/layer object is just an invisible layer that might be used as a parent layer, or a repository for expressions where you want to “publish” the results for use by other layers, or just to mark a particular spot in the composition.

  • You could use a position expression like this:

    period = 60; // how often to shift position (seconds)
    shift = -5; // how far to shift (pixels) (left is negative)

    offset = Math.floor(time/period)*shift;
    value + [offset,0]

    I don’t think there’s a better resource for the attributes and methods than the user guide/help. It’s not big on examples, but it’s got pretty much everything. Combine that with a good JavaScript reference and you should be good to go.
