I originally exported it with previews, had the problem, then tried without previews and still the same problem. I am not exactly sure how to disable gpu rendering.

Update: Unfortunately exporting without previews didn’t make much of a difference, maybe slightly. I’ll try to disable the GPU rendering…

I wouldn’t have thought to uncheck that box because every tutorial I’ve ever seen on the subject either ignores it or says to keep it checked.

I’ll give those settings a try. Appreciate it!

You’re absolutely right – the edges are the worst! The key looks much too smooth and fake by the time I’ve choked the life out of the edges just to clean them up.

I am really starting to understand the disadvantages of handycam “HD”. It looks fine to just play back but takes a major quality hit when editing. Now that I think of it, bad edges are my biggest problem every time I do green screen, now I know why. Gotta save up I guess.

Here is a green screen shot. It’s not perfectly lit but with a garbage matte the differing shades aren’t a much of a problem. I am shooting with a sony hdr-sr11, a handycam basically but it shoots hd.

Thanks Kevin, you nailed it. That really cut the noise down.

I’ve seen lots of basic tutorials about keylight and keying in general but they all use these near perfect scenarios where the keying is a one-click solution. I would love to find some more advanced tuts on dealing with more problematic keying for all us young and poor folk lol.

Actually, after testing the same .mp4 on all my media players, I see that it is only windows media player that is altering the gamma or something of the movie. Fine everywhere else – quicktime, vlc, realplayer.
