Sounds like I am having a similar problem. I’ve imported DVCPro HD footage into an after effects 8 project and rendering out quicktime .mov using lossless-animation. What happens is the footage starts off with the correct colors, then drops the brightness levels way down.

This tutorial is demonstrating the old way of importing P2 files before FCP 6 came out.

You can now go to File>Log and Transfer, click on the “add folder” icon in the top left-hand corner of the transfer window, navigate to the CONTENTS folder on your P2 card or drive and click “open”.

Then select the files you need and “Add Selection to the Queue” which will begin the transfer process that will convert the files to .mov and place them in your Capture scratch folder.

I’ve also noticed that this only happens when I’m using video clips inside of an AE Comp. I’m working on a project now that is strictly graphics – I’ve rendered to QT and it’s fine.

I had this same problem and spent an hour on the phone with Final Cut support and we finally figured out to fix the problem we had to trash both the Thumbnail Cache and the Waveform Cache.

This is found under the user preferences on your hardrive – mine happen to follow this path:

my hardrive/users/fcp_user/Documents/Final Cut Pro Documents/

– here you should find the “Thumbnail Cache Files” folder and the “Waveform Cache Files” folder
– drag them to the trash and make sure to empty the trash
– Do this while Final Cut is not open
– Launch Final Cut and it will rebuild the image and waveform cache which should solve the problem
