I’ve wondered about this myself. There are a few projects that I’m looking into working on/getting funding for, and I’m wondering exactly how others are dealing with living expenses.

To echo what a few have said, the reel is far too long. Personally, I wouldn’t go anymore than 8 minutes. Anything over 9 or 10 is overkill.
Regarding what to learn? I’d learn how to shoot. If you already know how to shoot, learn again. Learn new techniques. Stay fresh on new technology.

I’m with Todd on the creative control issue. That’s like going to a burger joint and having the cook tell you what you’re going to eat.
He who controls the money controls the content. Even if it is cringe-worthy.

One thing I try to do is do enough pre-production as possible. Edit things in my “mind” so I’ll have an idea as to where I’m going to go once all my assets are ready. I’m also pretty big on “pre-editing” … which is basically laying as much stuff down on the timeline as possible BEFORE the actual edit.

I’m in the same boat. I spend unnecessary time deleting these. Premiere and Media Encoder both create them.
Anyone know how to turn off this function?
