Thanks Jeff. But, I must admit that I am a bit confused by that process. I had found something similar (and equally confusing) here: https://slugco.com/meta/ProResOnWindows/

Thanks for your reply, John. Most recently I had read that ProRes 422 HQ “seemed to be becoming a standard” claim in the literature of fairly large (mostly international) broadcast distributor. I am not sure about DNxHD, but I will look into it.

But, even so, I would still have the 4 audio track requirement. Do you know if it is possible to output 4 audio tracks in DNxHD via Vegas?

I had already seen your DNxHD video and it was very helpful. Thank you!

  • Gregory, how did you end up getting to your ProRes 422 output with Vegas? Did you end up having to sub it out to a FCP system?

The answer is yes, although I have only found how to do it manually.

In the caption edit properties (or “Command Properties”), simply replace the default {R14In00Wh} and {R15In00Wh} with {R01In00Wh} and {R02In00Wh}. Presumably, “R15” represents “row 15.”

  • I have had similar breakup problems capturing to Vegas 10 from my HV20. I have gotten much better results using the capture function in my old Vegas 8.1.

Kelly, have you concluded the the problem was with your USB 3.0 drive?

I still have no “phantom sound” problems when using USB 2.0. But, when I return to USB 3.0, the audio anomalies return.

Sony states that there is no known problem, but I hope that 10d magically makes “my” audio/USB3 problem go away. I like my USB3 drives.

Changing to USB 3.0 ext source drives was the only change I did (that I could think of) other than the update to 10c, that preceeded the problem. SonyTech had responded initially to my phantom sound problem, but haven’t replied yet to the additional info that I sent them. I am curious if they are able to reproduce the problem and comment on it.

Anyway, my tests continue to support USB 3.0 as the culprit. So, I am back to my USB 2.0s again and all is well. I have not yet experienced these phantom sounds with USB 2.0 source drives.

I seem to have narrowed my “phantom sound” problems to the use of my new USB 3.0 external drives. Copying the problem project to an internal drive or a USB 2.0 external drive does not produce the same problem.

I have tried these tests many times and the problem is fairly consistent when using the WD USB 3.0 external drives (even through the USB 2.0 ports). I have not been able to reproduce the problem on non-USB 3.0 drives.

So, in my case, this does not appear to be a Vegas issue—which is very good news. I’ll miss my fast USB 3.0 drives, though.

Kelly, if you have your source material on any external drives, you may want to run similar tests. Seems like you had mentioned that you are not using USB 3.0, but I would test any external drive, since you describe a similar phantom sound problem.

Yes, no such luck as underlying music events. I have tried many workaround possibilities, but the phantom sound continues to appear intermittently and randomly (within the same unchanged project).

I am talking to Sony about this and hopefully they will be able to reproduce the audio error and provide advice.

Now, I find that if I zoom in on the audio anomaly, I can “sometimes” visually see it on the wave form (it seems to a portion of another audio event in the same project). But, still, when I open the same WAV file in SF, all is well.

I have submitted this to Sony Tech, so hopefully they will resolve. Otherwise, I will have to go back to 10a or b and hope that the problem does not exist there.
