Nick, I read documentation somewhere on AJA that we will not get RT HD RAM previews. Something about bandwidth. I have me using other AJA Kona and LH products and when I purchased IO Express for my laptop I had no idea that it did not work with AE. So I just upgraded to CS5.5 to get the preview and it still doesn’t work.

The frustrating thing is even when AJA IO Express is not selected I still don’t get RT RAM previews. Like you I have had to pull the plug-ins to get RT RAM preview.

I follow you steps but I had so much FCP work to do today that I never got around to checking AE preview.

Even if we can’t RT preview I would at least like to check out colors and layout on the broadcast monitor then turn AJA off to see RT RAM preview.

I have contacted AJA and I will relay your findings, I suppose you have contacted them too. Please keep me posted.

Just got your post. Is the thought that I can load AE 7, open both versions and copy and paste timelines then reconnect footage in AE 7?

The timelines are interview footage with 2 camera cuts pasted from Premiere timeline so all layers, ins, outs & handles are there.

It seems my only other choice is to export the QT files and then split the clips in AE 7. There are other elements, solids, text, background .mov’s all easily able to deal with.

The time element is the killer at this time. No progress and all of my CS4 preparation is shot. The freelancer & I did not communicate about AE versions I thought he was on an Intel Mac. My bad.

    Onward & Upward

Thank you very much for all of your input. In considering everything I have decided to export out some elements and re-construct the project in AE 7 on my Power PC. The path of least resistance.

I have noticed the difference and do not like the crossfades. It seems like they are additive or non additive mixes. It’s been a while since I used those mixes so I don’ recall the results.

    Kevin,

I appreciate you taking your time to create the tutorials.

  • “I have a massively long project and just wanted to send a few seconds to someone to preview”

Copy & Paste the portion that you want into another sequence. Then export.
