Thanks for the suggestion. I discovered that the problem is a loose firewire port on my camera. Somehow, even though Windows was registering that the device was connected, somehow it wasn’t connected enough for Premiere to control the device. To fix the problem, I stuck the firewire insert into my camera and applied some ongoing pressure with my hand and then was able to record my timeline to my camera.

    Hey Filip,

Thanks for your response. I am aware of the method you mention. My concern is that my work is all very music-driven (no dialogue), and the action has to be sharply in sync with the audio. I surmised (perhaps wrongly?) that the method you suggest would throw my timing off enough to make a difference.

BTW: The tif sequences are from AE 7.0 PAL comps. Is there a good way to directly convert my PAL comps to NTSC QT video without having to render them first and then convert? Could it possibly as simple as bringing a PAL comp into an NTSC comp and rendering? Will this give me better movement quality than rendering the PALs and then re-rendering as NTSC?

Yes, there are certain advantages with QT. But I would like to have the option of avi or QT, depending on the workflow, what my client wants and what the original files were. I am using the standard avi codec, uncompressed. Anyone else running into this problem?

“You can use non-interlaced, but the footage will be interlaced on a TV anyway, and the motion will be slightly smoother.” I hadn’t heard that before (re: it being smoother with interlacing). Is this common knowledge?

  • I like Boris Continuum Complete (for PC). A nice variety with a good number of pre-sets.

    Hey Peter,

Thanks for the reply. I have BCC version 2.0 for After Effects. I am running AE 7.0 on a Dell 650 workstation with dual 3.06 GHz Xeons (with hyper-threading turned off). I have an NVidia Quadro FX 500 video card with updated drivers. My OS is XP Pro. My hard drives are all 7200 RPM. Thanks.

I am in the same position — it would be great to get some wisdom on this. Thanks.
